Hi, new member here, I am in the market for an AT4 or X (or Chevy equivalents) and torn between short box and standard. Just a surprise factoid but having gone to scope out and test drive a Tundra, Ram Rebel, Power Wagon, F-150 variants , AT4 and ZR2 one surprise is that the Chev/GMC short boxes at 5’10” length are 3-4” longer than all the other makes, but with no longer overall truck length (all makes are within an inch of 233”). Must be a shorter hood? Also the beds are a bit wider, especially than the Tundra which has an internal bed that is 2” narrower between the wheel wells and almost 9” narrower at the max walls. This may help me lean to a Chev/GMC short box as a tweener between other trucks‘ short and standard beds.

Yeah, the bigger box on these newer ones (I think post 2018?) is nice. I don't want a traditional long box personally, although as a contractor there are times it would be nice. The longer and wider box on the short box is a very nice addition, however. More space is more space. I agree it doesn't look like they stretched the truck or anything like that. Interior space is good still. Hadn't even considered maybe the front is a little shorter, but looks wise if it is, can't tell.

It depends on what you intend to use the truck for, I have the standard box which is 6'6" i believe and when I have my sled deck on and a sled on the deck the sled engine is right over the rear wheels causing the front end to come up so I installed Sumo rear supports to limit the squat. If you intend to haul a sled or quad in the bed, the standard box is barely long enough and the short box would be a none starter for me. If you don't haul these types of loads the short box would be fine.

My truck is a 22 R 1500 Sierra CC AT4 LM2 for reference.

When I ordered my truck, it was minimal cost to go with the standard box. I do use the added the capacity. Skiing with four guys we packed every inch of the back under the cover. Plus, the standard box gives you 8ft to the multipro tailgate stop. The down side is with maneuverability and parking is not as easy.

I’m coming from a ‘16 Yukon Denali and where for the 7 years I have owned it I have almost always had one or both rear seats down to toss in longer gear like skis, a bike, sailbags. So I’m used to having 6.5’ cargo length behind the front seats, and wondering if 5’10” will cut it. 6.5’ cargo length vs 5.8’ does let you put skis (we have up to 200cm in the quiver) lengthwise vs diagonally (which leaves two inconvenient triangles to pack other gear around) and can take a lay down bike without having to remove a wheel (I don’t use my bike rack in the winter to keep salt/slush off the fatbikes). Easy answer is to go std box but the resulting 243” vehicle length is over 3’ longer than my Yukon. Fortunately I don’t need to do much street parking but I imagine that size is going to be a bit more of pain parking anywhere. I guess the cameras will help that though? Any daily driver regrets from those with a crew cab + standard box?

I personally do not like the short box on the AT4X I bought. I had a Denali HD before with the 6.5' bed and I miss the extra length. Just on simple things like putting our bicycles in the bed rail mounts the tailgate won't close on the AT4X it would on the Denali HD.

CC standard box is the minimum for me, nothing shorter and still call it a pickup. ;)

I went with the standard 6'6 box. Had the shorter one in my older truck and everything I seemed to load was always 6 inches longer then the bed. Also I think it balances the look of the truck out with the AT4 2 inch lift.

I also went with the 6'6" box. My 2012 only was available in the 5'10" and I wanted more space again. Plus with the load stop on the multipro tailgate you can fit 4x8 sheets in the back and there's less risk of them sliding out. I wish the AT4X would come with the standard box - I probably would have went that route if it did, but the short box was a non-starter.
