Maiden trip up to take the daughter back to school, about 300 miles in to the 750 mile ride the in car nav locks up.

i call the friendly Onstar support. I sit and they supposedly send a reboot. Power down the truck open the driver door. Reboot the truck, maps still stuck in Chicago and I am physically north of Green Bay. Helpful agent says you’ll need to take it to your dealer. Well the dealer is 700 miles in the other direction.

anyone know how to check the connections just in case it is as simple as a plug coming loose. I can take it to the Chevy dealer who is 50 miles away. Closest GMC I believe is 100 miles away.
thanks for the help.

Are you able to set your truck up as a wifi hot spot to ensure your data plan is activated? The factory navigation uses cellular to work properly.

Yes Wi-Fi and cellular are working. The trucks Wi-Fi worked great even in areas that my cell phone didn’t have service.

Even stranger is the fact that the myGMC app is able to locate the truck. So I can see it while the better half is at Walmart on our grocery run.

Appears that the app knows where the truck is presently. Strange.

Does this mean the truck has to be added to a cellular data plan?
First 3 years comes with the truck. After that for cellular data I am sure I will need to add it. But as I work from my truck and my previous vehicles had cell contracts I haven’t given it a lot of thought honestly.

Have you checked to see if your SD card is still seated in its slot?

How I understand it, (please correct me if you know I'm wrong) it only needs cellular if you are outside of your downloaded offline maps.

In the near future, when Apple's IOS 17 comes out, offline maps will be supported through CarPlay. Android play already supports it.

Never had a single nav glitch with an 18 2500HD Denali...had a running cussfight with a 19 AT4 1500...and already a few out of the blue headscratchers with my new 23 AT4 2500HD.

You are correct. I’ve never downloaded maps though.

I've never used the built in Nav in my 2021 Jeep. Just use my phone.
The issue is the way gm integrated car play and android auto. If you could run those apps on the right side of the screen it wouldn’t be an issue. We have a 2020 Sahara and the factory navigation is ok but we usually use car play google maps with satellite view.

I use the factory nav on my 23 AT4X. First time I have ever used the factory nav in a vehicle, before this I used my phone as it was far superior.

I use an android carplay box (trucks see's it as a carplay device but it is running full android - which means any android app is now useable on the truck display), and the factory nav is available in the smaller right side of the display, which leaves the larger left area for whatever I am using the carplay android box for (music app, or any app I choose, not limited like android auto is).

Since the truck has very good in-truck wifi, it makes all of this possible. The AT&T wifi service is excellent, actually far better signal than my Verizon phone, and Verizon usually has the best overall signal service for phones, so I am very pleased with the in-truck wifi.

Anyway, that is how it works for me - very well - in this 23 AT4X.

Well it has magically healed itself today.

It decided that it was no longer in Chicago. It has arrived in the UP of Michigan.

i have used my phone as the navigator for a long time, but google maps built in was sweet. It booted quickly and doesn’t burn up my cell data. here is to hoping it continues to work after self healing. I also downloaded Wake via the play store, so going to try that out on the screen.

Can you provide what carplay box your using. That looks kind of interesting. I'm using my android phone but that may be better due to the fact you can display any app.
