Took my 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4 in for its regular PM Service and I needed to replace the rear brake pads @ 22k miles. Rotors looked slightly purple per the Tek. My front pads have less then 40% wear remaining. This is my first AT4 however, my two previous trucks were 2500 HD Denali's. Both trucks had over 85k before new pads were even a consideration. Anyone else experiencing short pad life on their newer model trucks??

I have a 2024 HD with 38,000 and monitor show 86% pad life left front and 93% rear. When I inspect ant oil change / tire rotation I see virtually no indication of wear. Actually pretty impressed with them. I don’t tow monthly however and not a ton of mountain driving, usually go over cascade passes monthly. Towing and mountain driving should increase wear some.

Also rears being worn out before the fronts is not the norm. Fronts should be doing majority of the work. I would want to look into that further before putting money into new parts.

What percent are the rears? "Slightly purple" could simply be the tech trying to upsell a job. Post a picture of them. Somethings not right. I'm at 60k with 64% remaining front, just did the rears few k ago, they are at 96%.

Agreed. Not the norm for the rear pads to degrade/wear more then the front. That's why I'm inquiring here on this forum. Never had this issue of premature wear like this before. This is my 4th 2500 series truck, last three were GMC Sierra's... Rear pads showed uneven wear. I'm looking into other possible causes such as rotors, calipers. I was off road quite a bit recently, as well driven in the mountains so maybe the rear brakes got too hot. Who knows maybe I am running too hard. I'll definitely get it figured out shortly...

The rear pads were showing less then 30% on the display and they were wearing uneven. I did get a chance to inspect the pads myself before and after the replacement. They weren't trying to sell me "additional parts". My front pads are at 40% and wearing fine, albeit wearing faster then expected for only 22k miles.

I experienced this issue. Front 70%, rear 40%, then after inspection of rears, discovered that one side was at 2%. I was close to metal on metal. Apparently the sensor is only reading from one side. Maybe they didn't grease the pins properly? I cleaned, regreased, then new pads and sensor. Seem to be wearing more evenly now.

I tow/haul heavy and often, but shouldn't be wearing that way. Also, I stopped using adaptive cruise as I think that was just applying/dragging more. 🤷

Something is very wrong. Either you are dragging your pedal non-stop or something isn't working properly. Unless you are doing constant max towing and stopping every couple of miles from 50+ mph you should figure out what is wrong. That level of wear is very abnormal.

Definitely not dragging the pedal. I'm a pretty good coaster too and avoid braking too often. I tow @ max 2-3 times a week on back roads with a lot of stop and go. I'm going to inspect again next oil change. Hoping for at least a more even wear.

I had a similar issue - Rear's worn down to the sensor by 34k miles (I have a 2023 2500HD AT4 Duramax). Fronts look brand new. My last 2500HD had 113K miles when I sold it but never needed to change brakes/rotors - and I towed regularly. I upgraded to the Power Stop brakes and drilled and slotted rotors two weeks ago. Brakes feel better than stock, but not by a huge margin. I haven't towed our 37' toy hauler yet since the upgrade so only time will tell.

Do you use adaptive cruise control?
