I am aware there is a way to prevent the small tailgate/step from opening. This is for when you have a hitch in the receiver.

Is there a way to prevent the entire tailgate from opening?

On my old truck I did not have power lock in tailgate which at first I was dissapointed in. Later I realized for certain situations it was useful. I tow a trailer with a built in trailer jack and the tailgate would hit that jack if lowered. I was able to use my key to lock the tailgate to prevent me or a helpful friend from forgetting and lowering the tailgate.

Hold the top button for 3 seconds; this will prevent the tailgate/step from opening in future.

You could pull the F20 fuse on the driver's side fuse panel. Or get real creative and install switch to interrupt that circuit in the cab.

ETA... even better if'n you have a spare upfitter switch, you could have it interrupt the circuit.

Are there up fitter switches? I dont see them anywhere in standard or optional equipment. There are places for them but I think they are probably non functional.

An example I found on the GMC inventory page:

Upfitter switches are an option at the time of ordering or can be installed after the fact. They look like this...

Not my photo. I have them in the non-refresh dash...

Hmmm....I'm pretty familiar with the commercial "build" site and I have never seen them as available. I need to do some research. Thanks. My HD At4 order has been submitted but not allocation yet.

That first picture you posted is the new AT4/Denali dash with bucket seats.

The online order guide says the up fitter switches are not available on the AT4/AT4X/Denali/Ultimate.

Edit: that first picture is the Chevy/GMC lower trim. Above statement was wrong.

Damn, I didn't know the expensive trucks couldn’t get upfitter switches. That photo I posted, was stolen off the web. Sorry for the confusion.

No worries. I learned something from it. I will try to see if there is a way to do it myself.
