Hello,
I recently purchased a mount for EDC. I should be able to upholster pistol and clip into this mount. Pictures below. I tried the double sided Velcro it came with. Didn’t last a few hours with the pistol mounted. I also tried a double sided adhesive from Scotch. Same result. Any ideas of what would be the best option for sticking to the “hard plastic” yet maybe leaves minimal residue when removed?

Thanks

3M body molding double sided tape. Same stuff your badges are held on with. Apply adhesion promoter first. Comes in a small pen applicator. Clean plastic with alcohol, apply promoter, then 3 M tape. Best I have found other than bolting on.

Ty sir. Much appreciated.

You apply the adhesive promoter to the plastic where you will be mounting the holster mount. The adhesive promoter helps the tape bond to the plastic of the truck much more securely. Then apply the double sided 3M tape to the back of your mount and stick it to the area you applied the plastic promoter. The tape is double sided and should have a red film you pull off to expose the adhesive. Press and hold your mount firmly to ensure the 3M tape bonds securely. Typically you want to wait at least a few hours to let the tape bond before you try it out.

Forgot to mention the adhesion promoter usually has a color to it, typically purple. Just coat the plastic in the area you will be applying the tape. However if you ever remove the mount you can apply more adhesion promoter over the same area to re wet it and it will wipe off so no permanent marking or damage.

You also need to allow at least 24hrs for any adhesive to cure prior to applying any weight to it.

This was my last resort. I think I found the trick. I just mounted the mount as mentioned above with the adhesive promoter. I think that’s the trick with the hard plastic. Will follow up after it cures to see if pistol stays holstered with the weight dispersion.

With the rippled surface of where you are trying to mount, no tape style will work. I was in the auto parts for 25 years sold many brands of tape and they just will not adhere to that type of surface.

I will not question your expertise. I was fearing that maybe the case. However, as mentioned above the "adhesive promoter" might have been the key. I am 12 hours in of letting it cure. I checked this morning and seemed to be pretty sturdy. The test will be once the (loaded) mounted pistol if it will hold. Also, the TRUE test will be the midwestern heat come summer time.

Thank you for the insight and if the promoter is the key, maybe we learned a work around. Cheers.

Yes I had forgotten about the promoter. I hope it works let me know because I have a mount that I need to do.

I never developed patience. After 12 hours it seems to be holding. It held on the way home from work. 15 minute drive. Will let sit over night but as of now I think the promoter is key to that surface. I did use the tape recommended above but I’m sure a strong double sided will do. The mount above that I pictured initially is nice as I will buy more for the bed, office, etc as it’s compatible to the in waist holster.
