Oil Catch Can

I’ve seen reviews both good and bad for the oil catch cans- not necessarily this brand, but as a whole. I’m for anything that prolonges and helps engine life and efficiency. I guess, long story short, im still on the fence about. Oil catch cans and Cold Air Intakes are a highly debated topic. I’m just not sure??? Anxious to hear what you think!

I'm still trying to gather info about it. Personally haven't seen anything negative so far. I'm all for anything to help make my engine last. Trying to see if anyone here had put one on their AT4 (specifically 6.2L). Looking at this as well as the Pulsar LT. From what I'd heard the Pulsar LT can turn off the active furl management which makes the engine run only on 8 cylinders keeping the 2 piece lifters from engaging and disengaging (Causes a lot of damage from what I hear)

Heard good things about the pulsar LT also. Leave no trace on the ECM. In fact the Edge CTS 3 that I use has an option of adding the Pulsar for a price. I haven’t added it yet. I’m just a little “old school “ worrying about voiding a warranty and all. Although, the Pulsar claim is that it absolutely will NOT void the warranty. May look into adding it to the Edge CTS 3 soon. My deal with CAI’s is more air flow equals less filtration and I’m not sure about the cost to actual gains is cost

Cost prohibitive? What does the oil catch can do as far as warranty?
The JLT catch can I was looking at costs about $150 and the Pulsar I think is around $460.00. Still trying to find out about the warranty. I still have less than 3,000 miles on mine so really don't want to do anything that'd void a warranty.

From research I have done previously (I know I'm the new guy) - a catch can would probably help keep the gunk off the intake valves - which is good. That is a distinct disadvantage of direct injection engines - no fuel to constantly clean the intake valves. Luckily these engines aren't turbo or super charged engines where the need would be even greater.

Regarding warranty - it'll be tough but the burden of proof would be on GM or the dealership to prove that your modification caused or contributed to the failure. Luckily, it looks like the JLT system would be pretty easy to remove using the push to connect fittings. However - a bad dealership would probably try to blame breaking valve springs on your catch can...so up to you really.

I had a JT catch can on my Ford F150 ecoboost. It worked great and mounted super easy, but sturdy. Looked professional under the hood as well.
It would fill about halfway every 5k miles.

LamboTexas, thanks for that video. I felt like a school boy listening to a college professor. From the title I was expecting to learn, as the videos title states, that I SHOULDN'T upgrade my catch can. Instead I learned that having a catch can on an GM LT direct injection engine is a good, if not great idea. I installed a JLT 3.0 catch can on my AT4 as soon as I could get one delivered. I have had no problems at all with it and I have drained it 3 times in over the last 12,000 miles each time draining about 1.5oz of "caught oil" that went into my oil recycle instead of the intake manifold.

The JLT 3.0 is an easy install and seems to be working as advertised.

Here is a picture of mine. Install was easy.

First time checking out this thread…
Sold my stock tires the other day, guy who bought them rolled up in a 2019 at4, lol, loved it! Asked him about any issues on his and he had lifters fail at 25k. I started to look into this for reference of possible future failure. I do have a pulsar LT and it does allow for dod disable, but I have read that some are still having lifter failure even running without dod. Hopefully it doesn’t happen but I know I am getting better mpg with dod enabled and don’t think it would make a difference if it’s on of off to fail so I turned mine back on.

So - bought one of the JLT 3.0 (now J&L OSC) about about a week ago directly from J&L OSC. Placed order about 10PM on Dec 14. At around 8:30am on December 15 I got the email with tracking info. Oil separator arrived on Dec 17. Installed same day, took about 20 minutes.

I put ~540 all highway miles on the truck over the weekend visiting family for holiday stuff. Checked the catch can this morning - photos below of what it caught.

First photo of oil in the can- the white stuff in the bottom is frozen water. It got pretty cold last night (about 15F overnight low) so should have expected this. Emptied into a water bottle to see how much stuff it actually caught. Thawed the water and added to the bottle to see total volume. Pretty surprising considering the truck only has about 3000 miles on it now...
