Not many locations selling Low sulfur Diesel

I never buy bio-diesel. I believe my duramax owners manual says to not use it.
You read it wrong. Manual states up to 20% biodiesel is allowed. I haven't seen a pump over 5% and I'm in the heart of soybean production.
 

I have used BIO 20 and it runs the same. I have heard that it may not have the shelf life a lower BIO fuel would have like compared to #2 etc. Not sure how true that is but when I am going on a trip I wont hesitate in filling up with BIO 20 but when I'm not driving much, like a tank a month I will try my best to fill up with the #2 stuff.
 

I gave up on diesel engine everything in 2006 when ULSD was introduced and I started hauling it to stations. Ever since then biodiesel additives have slowly been introduced to the refineries. Horrible stuff that shuts down loading terminals for hours while they unclog filtering systems and free valves. This is before it's even loaded on the trucks.

The smell and detrimental effects it has on anything the product comes in contact with is well documented as well as cost of maintenance going through the roof.

Every single truck I have driven that requires DEF and runs on USLD has left me stranded. Ironically it always ended up when I was loaded. And almost always getting towed to a station to unload the same product that caused me to break down.

At the pump it tells you 20% max (B20). Reality is it can test at loading terminals at over 40% and still be cleared to take to stations with high volume tanks. "Dilution acceptance" is the term used and signed off at the terminal operators discretion.

Same goes for ethanol 10% (E10) blend. I cannot count the number of times drivers dumped a full load (8500 gal) of E85 into a tank of regular or premium. Now you are diluted with ethanol and have E20 or E30 in the tank. And it's not pumped out but sold as E10. I try my best to avoid stations that sell E85 because those are the ones that end up with high ethanol content in the E10 tanks.
 

Here is one of many stations that have recently converted to B20 from B5. Not sure around the rest of the country. Here in Southern California you are going to be hard pressed to find any station that has B5 in the near future. This is due to Phillips 66 refineries shutting down in Carson and Wilmington. B20 is much easier and cheaper to produce and a big profit margin for petroleum energy producers.

Gasoline will be business as usual as the refineries that are closing are primarily jet fuel and B5 USLD. All modern consumer pickups with diesel power plants can operate on B20.

I highly recommend running a Raycor 460R or 490R water separator/filter. I used these in all kinds of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles. In a tiny sub 8 liter low torque engine pickup you will never exceed the flow rate on either of the units. B20 carries a lot of moisture (as a byproduct) that the OEM system cannot get rid of (requiring excessive re-gens).

Change the filter every oil change with piece of mind of removing all but the tiniest of contaminates and a lot less water vapor during combustion. This will help raise the exhaust temps, use less DEF, less frequent re-gens and result in a longer lasting DPF.

Yes and that is cheap diesel. B20 is cheaper to produce and is typically .50 to 1.00 cheaper per gallon than the B5. Now you understand why I won't be going with a diesel truck. If CARB and AQMD had their way, they would figure out a way to either get rid of CI engines altogether or have them run on B100.

How much does CA tax a gallon? NE is .46 a gallon, but our hiways are good.
 

The gas tax is just the last most visible ta added along the way. Think of all the other nutball hoops the product has to get though on it's way to the pump. From special California blends to regulation and taxes from the point it leaves the ground.
