I realize GM has a real problem with bad crankshaft matching or machining debris in L87 causing bearing wear /engine failure
But IMO if that is the case on a bad engine you would expect to see debris in oil almost right away and or bearing wearing out so bearing material in oil after a year or so
If the engine was assembled clean and had on spec machinied parts even with 0-20 oil I would not expect any debris in oil so you should be good & not agonize over this
Not every L87 has an issue if your concerned cut your filters open takes 10 minutes
Very surprised GM not doing this simple test
In hindsite when new I would have changed my oil after 500 miles and cut open filter If any debris in engine ( some can be normal for fresh engine ) the filter would catch all of it and hopefully not recirculate some thru engine and or that would point to serious problem if slot of trash in filter at 500k
I’ve been cutting my filters apart since the free oil changes were over and have never found any bearing flakes etc
Today at 37k my filter has no bearing or any other trash
I change oil every 3-4000 miles have been using 0-40 Amsoil since free oil changes ended ( I tow a lot & knew the Camaro 6.2 suggests 0-40 for HD use )
this oil has 4000 miles on it filter looks great !!
I’m encouraged and will continue to cut open my filters at each change
My $$$ BBC PERF motor always has a few flakes in it every change but it’s run very hard pbly more from valve train than bearings
