I have a 2024 3500 AT4 with the 6.6L gas and have always noticed a whine/turbo-like noise from the engine under light throttle around 2000 RPMs while going around 35 mph. Multiple people riding with me have commented that it sounds like I have a turbo. Is this normal on these engines, or is it something I should look into?

Here's a short video with the sound starting a few seconds in (best heard with headphones):

I just got my 2024 3500 AT4 with gasser as well. I have that same noise, as well as a few others that strike me as odd. I'm not entirely sure, but I am suspect of the power steering pump making all of my noises...that whining as well as a bubbling/gravely noise heard by the steering wheel at idle. To me, it seems like there is air in the pump. I expected better...😡

Yeah, I have the same noise from the power steering as well. My buddy just bought the sister truck to the AT4 (3500 Silverado Z71 gasser), so I'm going to go drive his when we have some free time to compare. I know the power steering is considered "normal" by GM, but this other noise had me wondering. Good to know I'm not the only one. It drives fine otherwise, just something I was wondering about. I came from a Tundra that was smooth as silk and made no weird noises at all, so maybe it's just something to get used to with these larger HD trucks.

I also have a weird noise when the A/C is on when coasting to an idle. Almost sounds like a dirt bike idling outside. Not sure if it's the blower motor or the compressor, but it goes away if I turn off the HVAC.

I came from a 2020 RAV4 hybrid. It made a lot of robot noises, but none that sounded abnormal, like this truck does. I just think the Toyotas have a much higher build and finish quality than GM, sadly.

Do the gasser's have hydroboosters? They have a different sound and will definitely travel up the steering column.

The sound is like what you are explaining, gravel traveling thru a hose, now that you say that.

I have every noise described in this thread on my 6.6 and no idea what causes each of them. Pretty annoying, sounds broke!

I figure the engine whine and power steering noises are "normal", but the HVAC dirt bike noise is the most annoying and embarrassing. Just doesn't seem right.

I don't believe I have the A/C noise. Haven't noticed anything anyway. That might be something actually worth taking in under warranty.

So I did some more scientific testing on this (duct taped my phone in the engine compartment and under the truck near the transmission), and I'm almost certain this noise is coming from the transmission. When the camera was in the engine compartment you can only faintly make out the noise at certain points, but when it's under the truck you can hear it clearly. It seems to happen most noticeably in 4th-6th gears under light load. In doing research, it seems like the 10L80 in the GM/Ford 1/2 tons make a similar noise and dealers are saying it's "characteristic" of the 10-speed. I'm not sure if the same would apply to the 10L1000 in the HDs. I don't know if this is just something I should live with or at least take to the dealer to document it and have them claim it's "normal", because the truck otherwise drives/shifts fine.

I finally took a ride in my buddy's 2024 Silverado 3500 with the L8T and his makes the same noise, but I felt like his wasn't as loud/noticeable as mine. Who freakin' knows...

I've only had my truck a short time with a few miles on it. I can also hear a slight turbo whine sound as well. I'm fairly certain it was the transmission. This didn't sound like an issue to me. This is very common for different transmission models. It usually gets louder when coasting (caused by the gearing). It's music to my ears... just like an old Muncie rockcrusher. Although I may be incorrect.

Hey buck I have a 2020 Silverado 3500 dually CCLB 4x4 6.6 gasser with the 6L90 I also have the same noise around 35-55mph like you said 4-6th gear on light throttle and not in throttle 55+mph I don’t hear it because my mud tires take over and that’s all you can hear if I let off the throttle while going 35-55 you can really hear it weird part is truck never had this noise until 25k miles ago truck has 73k on it the noise is pretty annoying and kinda embarrassing I don’t have warranty anymore so taking it to a dealer or shop is definitely not a option until the truck completely fails besides the noise the truck is amazing zero issues at all pulls my travel trailer great and looks good doing it unloaded I’m getting 12-13 loaded I’m looking at 10 trailers only 9500 pounds bumper pull my truck consumes 1 qt of oil between a 4-4500k mile oil change interval I’m running pennzoil platinum synthetic I’ve tried a bunch of different brand oils and pennzoil seems to have less consumption I’m gonna switch to their full synthetic high mileage next oil change since truck will be at 77k miles sorry for the long message thanks for the chat🤙

I have the 6.6 gas. I don’t have the other noises mentioned but do have the “turbo whine”. Not very loud and doesn’t bother me.

I figured they added a sound generator to make us feel like we have diesels🫣

you know like the electric cars that have fake exhaust noises……vroom vroom brat a tat…….It keeps me from feeling like a lesser man
