Hey guys, I just bought a 2021 with the 3.0L. When I shut down there is a grinding metal clunking noise. I used to have the 2.8L Canyon and it would make a clunking noise after shut down, but didn’t sound like metal on metal. I don’t mind the noise, but a little concerned that it sounds like metal on metal. Anyone else having the same issue?

Hello ... my 3.0 does make an odd noise as well after shut down ... it sounds like something is flipping over onto it self ?? ... that is the best way I can describe that sound for now ??
All diesels do that due to the super high compression. The last rotation of the crankshaft at shutdown kicks back against the connecting rod and makes a loud clank. It’s like a kick start on a motorcycle that doesn’t fire and kicks back on your foot

Old Southern Boy, thanks for that great description of why diesels do that thing they do at shut off.

Muspelheimf1 is there an update on your issue? Like you state, its that metal on metal sound that seems out of place and is concerning.

In reading through the one of the books that came with the truck there was a comment that after truck was shut down you would hear clicking (don’t remember e act word). It stated it was pumping def back to your tank.
