Hello all! I've owned GM trucks for over 30 years. Always had good luck, getting close to 200k each time. I'm very disappointed in my latest truck. It's a 2021 AT4 1500 with 45k miles. Started off great, loved the layout, power, technology, etc. However, the past year has been challenging. It started in January 2023 with my dashboard lighting up and the engine shuttering (38k miles). Turns out the lifters on the left bank were bad, common problem from what I'm seeing in this forum and others. Then in July, my water pump went out (42k mile)...again, common issue. Then in October, I took it back in for an unusual noise when starting up in colder weather. It turns out they found metal shavings in my oil pan (45k miles). The mechanic at the dealership, the tech, and manager all agreed an engine replacement was needed. GM denied the claim and told them to take apart the engine to figure out what is wrong and only replace those parts. Well, it's been 6 weeks and they are still working on it. They've replaced the cam shaft (what they believe was the culprit for the metal shavings), lifters, and various other parts. Each week I get a call to find out what else they have replaced, what parts they are waiting on, and when they hope to be done. I called GMC and spoke with their front line agent there, not sure this will help, but wanted to try something. She assured me that they would do some research and get back to me. A different individual called me back a few days later and left a message. I've called them back every day for almost a week now, and nobody answers, just goes to voicemail...and nobody calls me back. What a joke! When it's time for a new truck, I've never had to do much research other than which GM truck I wanted. After this, I'm already researching my next truck brand. Hate to leave GM, but between the engine problems and the lack of customer service, I need to look elsewhere.

Anybody else having luck talking with anyone at GMC that can do anything? Do they care?

that’s a bummer for sure. Which engine do you have? I’m sure you could try getting their attention by creating more noise (YouTube, google, Facebook reviews). Unfortunately you probably just got a bad vehicle, and switching brands may not solve that, but I’d be just as frustrated. And would likely swear off a brand as well. Good luck!

I have the 6.2 engine. GM finally called back tonight, I missed the call. Left me a VM, said all parts are in, truck should be ready soon. Service tech called earlier and already told me truck was ready. Happy to get my truck back, but worried about reliability. I wish GM would address their quality issues and care about their customers.

Yep, they gave me a loaner. I realize it could happen with any mfg, just disappointed with how gm is handling this. I've been loyal to them and have purchased at least 7 vehicles, and recommended them to family and friends. I'm fine with a lemon, it happens, but make it right. Update... truck back in shop. Multiple warning messages, engine light, and overheating. Another trip to dealership, another loaner. We'll see what it is this time. Made it a while 250 miles.

I have a 2022 AT4X with 17K miles since new. OTA's made me jump the truck's battery twice. Sunroof stopped working but fuses did not blow....faulty fuses replaced and all good. Had horrible running issues and truck pings with anything less than 91 Octane. I now put 93 in the truck....all good and tons of power. AFM no longer a concern with running AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature series....not joking! No matter what, do 5k engine oil changes even with AMSOIL/MOBIL 1 Oil filters(this is what I run). Mileage is respectable with 16-17 in town and 21-22 highway here in Texas(AMSOIL and 93 Octane is to blame :-). The truck has settled in now.....much happier with it. From 2007-2013 I purchased 5 high end Tundras (platinums/TRD-Pros etc) and had a bit better luck. The chassis and driveline then were the benchmark but not now. Trade the one you own post the repair as a peace of mind....get this behind you. Service everywhere/every brand is not good as all OEM's are really all the same. Build a relationship with a single dealer....very important....get to know them personally a bit. Relationship building solves big problems and most want to help you. As important....when you get a good/great truck...keep it as long as you can!

Again sorry to hear this, may be time to seek legal options regarding buy back and a new truck....in the end your gonna be fine just a royal PITA. Best of luck.

I had a terrible customer service experience myself. significant Paint damage on the front bumper area in the first month. Local dealer said not my problem, you bought the truck out of state. I said you can't order one so I had to go out of state you turd. Contacted GM they said bring it to local dealer, the turd said not his problem. Went to another dealer for service and asked them what they thought of paint they said it was for sure a quality control issue and that the bumper is painted different then the rest of the front and different material. probably was not prepped right. Gave me a different GM number and they removed and repainted the area under warranty. Bottom line the first dealer was a dipstick and the second dealer restored my faith in GM and is getting my service business.
