Multimatic Dampers

I recently bought my '24 AT4X HD AEV Edition and it has the Multimatic shocks. It rides WAY better than I expected an HD truck to ride. It is definitely still stiff but they have done a great job smoothing out some washboard dirt roads and there is very little body roll on the pavement. The ride is firm but compliant if that makes sense. I would compare it to a stiffer sprung sports car on the road. Rides harder than a half ton but not bouncy. Very nice dampening. I have not driven the half ton with the Multimatics but I expect that the 3/4 ton is quite a bit stiffer.

Has anyone upgraded to the Multimatic Shocks on the AT4XHD? I drove a 1500 At4x AEV. What a nice ride. I’m thinking of trying them. Might be worth the $$$.
The AT4X HD comes standard with the Multimatic DSSV shocks. The AT4HD comes with rancho shocks.

Do the DSSV shocks have a electric plug in them??…If they do it wouldn’t be worth it to retro fit them to a AT4 HD because they wouldn’t be adjustable they would resort to their default setting.

They are not connected to anything electric…BUT the AT4X has different upper control arms and knuckles in the front and a lift spacer in the rear, so they may not fit the at4 suspension.

Glad to finally see a discussion on the DSSV shocks....in my opinion those would be the biggest upgrade for an X over a standard AT4. I had been planning on a 3500 AT4 but the X has my attention, mainly because of these shocks. Would be nice to know if they can be retrofitted to a 3500, although I think they are about 4,000 a set.

My $.02 - I had a 2023 AT4, and now have a 2024 AT4X with the Multimatic Shocks. I replaced the Ranchos on my 2023 with Kings - about the same price as the Multimatics. The Kings were amazing - totally smooth, and on offroad washboard stuff, rocks, freeway, etc., were awesome. The Multimatics, not as much. Don't seem to respond as quickly, and a bit harsher. Wish I still had my Kings. Will keep the Multimatics just because they are there, but really loved the King upgrade.

Great input; thanks!

With my 2024 2500HD AT4X AEV Edition, I'm not actually sold on Multimatic Shocks. For an empty rider myself, I find its quite stiff. I wish Bilstein made something adjustable like I have B16iRC shocks in my mercedes, and with 19" wheels and less sidewall, it still rides like a dream, one would not believe its on 19's, the ride is super smooth. Just waiting for Bilstein to build some active shocks for the 2500HD AT4X AEV

Picked up a 2024 at4x hd. Have about 1200 miles on the truck. Came out of a 2019 ram 2500 with Carli king pintop leveling kit. The GMC ride with the multimatic shocks is garbage Offroad compared to the Carli king ram set up. Way too stiff. On road it feels planted and handles well but still too stiff on rougher paved roads. I spend a lot of time Offroad and will be looking for a new suspension set up. Super dissappointed. Bought the x because I liked the idea of a factory lifted truck. Looks as if I will still be looking for aftermarket set up.

You and me both; although others deny it, the ride with Multimatic shocks is garbage and we need to look for a new suspension setup. Let me know what you find.

I was looking into trading for an HD and drove the AT4X HD and the AT4 HD back to back to compare the ride with and without the DSSVs and frankly I could not tell the difference. This was down both smooth and expansion joint rough roads. Maybe they are better off-road?
