So normally I’m the type of guy that waits to dyno a vehicle before modifying it, just to see what actually makes a difference but… After owning my 6.2L AT4 for less than 24hrs I couldn’t bare not hearing the engine any more 🤣 I took it down to a local muffler shop to get the stock muffler removed. This is just a temporary adjustment, I’m sure I’ll be doing a full exhaust set up on it sooner or later. The shop can only crush bend 3in so it goes 3.5in to 3in and back up to 3.5in before the Y. Also had that weird dampener/butterfly valve removed but kept the stock resonators. Kinda surprised it’s not as loud as I expected but definitely glad it’s not! I think this is how they should sound stock!
Stock sound clip (Background noise sucked at the shop)
Muffler Delete w/Stock Resonators clip
Side note, soft limiters suck!

So much better, great decision (y)

No time like the present right? Sounds great. How's the cabin noise level?
It’s barely audible, well I mean you can hear it but easily talk over it (I can send ya a little video tomorrow if you’d like). These trucks seem to have great noise deadening abilities. But… Holy Shyt Batman! The cold start is insanely louder! I’ll take a video of a cold start.

Any issues of the “helicopter” sound people report, while driving, after removing the flapper? I’m on the fence about removing it when I delete my muffler.

I can hear the engine cutting cylinders when cruising on the highway if I’m really paying attention to it. It’s not something that bothers me, you definitely can’t hear it if the radio is on lol. I wasn’t really sure what the flapper was for so I had them cut an extra 6in before it just in case I had to weld it back in.

Im interested in this. Bought a 6.2 last night and i drove another 6.2 truck that was loaded up beyond my budget but it had the gm performance exhaust. After driving that performance exhaust truck i knew i had to get my truck to sound the same. I havent taken the time to see exactly what the gm performance exhaust consists of.

I have the GMC performance exhaust on mine and love it. GMC Borla Catback Exhaust 19419433

Thank you im gonna look up the parts and have a local shop do it. But i really liked it. Im not a fan of loud exhaust but that one had just enough for my taste. Clean sound and when you layed into it it makes me smile lol

I had my muffler delete done on Friday and it’s pretty gnarly. I’m happy with it so far, it actually sounds like a truck now. While accelerating, if I hold it at about 1500 rpm it drones quite a bit but up or down in the rpm range it’s not bad at all. I left the flapper in, but I’m really tempted to remove it now. Only reason is, it rattles more now than it did before.

And yeah, like you said, the cold start is loud. It quiets down pretty quickly though.

I’ve been told I’m kinda hard of hearing by the little lady 🤣 I guess I can’t hear it lol When you same it rattles are you saying you can hear the butterfly rattling? When I get home from WV, I am going to take it to my buddies shop and have him weld in a 3.5in mandrel pipe instead of the 3in crush bent on I have now. If you want to cut the drone back check these out, they have them in 3.5in too. http://www.classicchambered.com/classic/products.html
I’ve ran them on a few of my vehicles, including my 2011 procharged Silverado.

Yeah, I can hear the flap rattling, but only from the outside. It’s not bad, but sometimes I can be ocd about things like that. If I grab the spring or put my foot on it, the rattling stops.

Well maybe you should try this before you cut it out, just to see if ya like it.
