Hey all,
Just something I was thinking about again after backing my toy hauler into a spot after dark. The reverse lights on the truck are so bright and they reflect off the white fifth wheel so much that I can't see much past it. Has anyone ever done a good mod for disabling the back up lights on the truck, but not the trailer? Thought about just a switch in line with the taillights, but wondered if there was something simpler (or with no wire cutting) that had been done. Most likely won't be in that situation again till next spring, so I have some time to think on it.

It's amazing how bright the lights reflect off the camper! Tape and/or magnet cardboard or a plastic trash bag over the tail lights for the few times you may need it. I sure wouldn't be hacking up the factory harness and dealing with the codes it may throw when it doesn't sense the proper lights.

Im sure not a fan of cutting into a factory wiring harness but if I was in your shoes I might try it. A simple switch to cut the power to the lights would do it. Unless, the computer freaks out but even then should all be good once you turn the switch back on.

Yeah, not a fan of cutting the wires either. Not in a rush, just working through some possibilities with all of you. It probably really only is needed 3-4 times a year, so maybe just something to cover the lights when I need is the best bet.

Put some blue painters tape over the lights when you hook up the trailer. Simple and you don't have to worry about codes popping up. Unhook trailer pull off tape.
Perfect solution. Will peel off super easily too, and not leave any residue. Could apply multiple layers too if one doesn't cut the bright enough. Great call.
