Mandatory Onstar removed from some models starting in "24"

Just saw that in the news.

Lucky me getting a "23" F$^$$@rs
I got my replacement refresh 22 just in the final days of production where they started forcing this. A week later I could have had a 23 with the updated engine but because orders took months at the time I had no way of knowing that.

I shut it all down before taking delivery. Upon taking delivery I unplugged all the antennas. The last thing I want is GM harvesting my telemetry data without compensating me. Now I just need a way to stop all the onscreen prompts begging me to sign in (authenticate) so they can spy on me more. Nope.

Sadly, when this decision by GM was made. You no longer have a choice in the matter. "It comes with the vehicle."

I still had to pay the fee, but the dealer never activated it. If anyone knew the level of behavioral data sophistication that is collected, GM would be facing class-action

I like some of the new electronics that are on the power train but have no use for the "let me help you drive stuff" so I am glad that there has been push back just as there will be on pricing and lack of parts for repairs.

It may take a while but if we have a recession GM and others may realize that the customer does and should have some say in what they want on a vehicle and for me I have no use for the "keep me connected technology" that drives the price up.🤑
