Has anyone used the harness from GEN5DIY.com (2023 GMC Sierra Refresh Radar Detector extra leads) to wire a thinkware U1000? The thinkware uses a 12vlt feed, and I'm thinking I can cut the power cord that comes in the box and splice it into the harness from Gen5diy. Then keep the wires up into the review mirror shroud. Only thing is the recording while the truck is off. I don't think I would have that feature using this technique.

Thoughts? Or does someone have an alternate solution?

Originally, I was going to wire up my Blackvue DR900X directly to the wiring in the rearview mirror enclosure, as I had on previous vehicles. This harness from GEN5DIY makes it so much simpler. I ordered one and it should be to my house this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, I believe the only issue with wiring directly to the review mirror harness is, I am not sure if the harness that gets tapped into is on full-time. That would mean the parking feature is not activated as the camera has no power when the truck is off.

I'll let you know right away!

I have the Thinkware 1000 and just used their mirror tap kit to the rear view, no issues and everything works like it should. Just followed a YouTube video for the pin locations and it was an easy install.

Did the Thinkware 1000 come with their own harness or where did you get the tap kit. I have been on their website and i must be missing it. Thanks, Also does tying it into the mirror allow for the surveillance mod?

You can get a mirror tap kit from Blendmount that will work with the hardwire kit. Not sure what you mean by surveillance mod but if you mean parking mode, yes that does work. Can’t remember if I had to run a separate constant 12vdc line to the panel.

Your point is what i'm trying to figure out. I have not pulled my mirror shroud off to see if the harness the GEN5 ties into is a constant hot. If it is, the parking feature for the dash cam would work. If not, a dedicated line would need to be run to the fuse box to a constant hot fuse as you mention.

I am not sure how important the parking feature is to me, to force me to try and run and hide the wire in the headliner-door frame-into the steering column and then into the engine bay.

Jester, have you figured this out? I'm in the same boat you were in. I also have a dash cam that needs all-time power and accessory-power. I really want to get this install right the first time. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Guys...it is NOT constant hot (with the GEN5DIY cable). When you turn the truck off, the dashcam will shut off as well. That is not an issue for me. I liked the simplicity of it so as not having to run wiring down to a fuse box or a point that is "live" for the parking features of the dashcam.

If you want to utilize the parking features of your dashcam, then the GEN5DIY cable is not a good choice.

I'm not asking about a GEN5DIY. My question, that woke this old thread up was, is if Jester found a good solution to needing a constant power and acc power, like I need. I'm looking for clean wiring ideas from people who have experience with this exact wiring setup. I know how it "can" be done, I'm just looking for better ideas. I need the "parking" feature because I alway have to leave my truck in unmaintained road parking areas, while working on ATV trail systems.

I believe I used fuse 25 and 26 in the passenger fuse box .

25 is for the Spotlamps (constant ) and 26 is for the USB ports (ignition switched)

It works great on my Rove3 dash cam and parking mode works .

You will need 2 micro3 fuse taps .

I used these
