Hi there - does anyone have an ideal tonneau cover and rack setup they can tell me about, or ideal options to pass along to consider?

I'm looking for a low-profile tonneau that is secure and weather-proof (or close to it), that can roll back versus slide back, to maximize room in the truck bed. A molle would be great, too. The rack would ideally be adjustable (hopefully 18" or less at its lowest, so it's beneath the rear-view camera), and can also be removed easily when not needed.

I just returned from the PNW Overland Expo and was hoping to come home with plenty of options to consider for brands and model combos. Sadly, only one option, and one referral, and EVERYONE was price gouging!

The referral sounded amazing yet ended up not being ideal (read on) - RealTruck Bak Revolver X4ts Hard Roll Up Tonneau Cover w/ T-Slot Rails (linked here). It has a built-in rail for the racks to easily attach and detach. The add-on rack system can easily adjust from 18" and up (linked here). HOWEVER, reviews are horrible - the tonneau leaks and breaks a lot (almost 10% of Amazon reviews are one star with detailed reports of issues, which seem legit). Further, the system doesn't clamp to the truck bed - you have to drill in 10 holes (not what I seek).

A close pairing option I saw was the Truckd Overland Rack (too pricey, nor is it rack made for easy removal or adjusting), paired nicely with the TruXport (Truxedo), yet it's a soft rollup only (not secure enough, but pricing was more reasonable).

Looking forward to feedback to help end my search! I'm hoping to catch a 4th of July sale or Amazon Prime deal.

Location: Eastern WA / North ID.
Truck: 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, eco-diesel.

I shopped the heck out of this looking for right cover. Main criteria for me was a trifold that was wx proof and could load on top. I wanted the Peragon Tectonic, but backordered, so went with Diamondback Switchback and am quite happy.

For what you're looking for, Peragon's Landmark might cover most bases. It retracts different from others. Not a roll but it folds into the bed and spreads to take up little room. Buddy of mine has a "roll" and he complains about it taking up more room and awkward dealing with it. It also appears to have rail room for rack systems as it leaves plenty of the rail

Anyway, in research, I was really impressed with the Peragon products and worth a look.

I went Retrax XR to have a secure locking roll up cover with the T track rails for my racks. I have 2 sets of racks that mount to the t tracks. One very low mount set for my bike racks. Then the Traxedo Elevate FS racks that have a mid (18” ish) height and a high over the cab height. I haul 2 20’ tandom kayaks so needed over cab height and high load rating. The top position is about 2” above the cab roof.

Additionally you could use the Meliprin low racks that are just above the bed cover and put a basket on them for additional storage, and have the TRAXEDO on at the same time in the mid height with a RTT on those.

  • RetraxOne XR RTX-T-60484 -$1,700
  • Melipron 72” bed racks -$145
  • Traxedo Elevate FS - 1118570 - $850

Looks like the rack is 18” at lowest, 23”, and 28” at full height. So the 18” sounds like what you want or you could put at 23” since it would be just above your camera and should see below it. The rack at 18” with RTT or other items on top of the bars I assume would obscure the camera. 23” setting may be worth checking out.

I also have a Diamondback and so far it’s been very impressive. Totally weatherproof and they have several rail accessories for it.

Thank you for sharing these Peragon models! I REALLY like the Landmark model, yet neither appear to be compatible with a rack system. I'll inquire at the truck outfitter I'm visiting today. Again, much appreciated!

Thanks! Coincidentally, the Retrax One XR or Pro XR paired with the Elevate Rack FS are what I think I'm narrowing down to with research today - great timing for your second opinion!

There is also a 4th of July sale RealTruck will honor for me with $200 off. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such detailed information with photos.

Do you mind if I ask what the wired device is on the back of your truck and tonneau? :)

Those are Rough country swivel mount led lights. They rotate and fold down. I use them for setting up camp and can move them any direction needed. I used T track nuts to mount them to the t tracks so I didn’t have to drill holes in the bed rails. White leds and also have amber DRLs. I turn them on from my cab switch panel but each light has a built on switch so I can change the mode or only have 1 on at a time if I want.

Did you see these

I have a carbon pro bed and have very limited options. Check out this company as they have lots of options that work with any bed or cover type. No drilling needed as their system works with the stake pockets. This allows me to keep my BakFlip for my carbon pro bed.

Don’t leave out the Pace Edwards UltraGroove. Comes in electric and manual with 5 year warranty. I preferred the UltraGroove electric over the Retrax bc the Ultra has a One button click Open/Close, one click to stop. The Retrax my brother has, the remote button had to be held the entire time. The UltraGroove has full length T-track and a manual release for the bedcover. The Retrax electric cover did not have a manual release if it quit or your battery was dead.

Thanks! Those racks connect with the same integrated T-rails at the RealTruck Retrax Pro XR. I am impressed with this particular tonneau and its lifetime warranty.

Thank you! I think I'm leaning toward the t-rail setup that is integrated into a tonneau covers, such as the RealTruck Retrax system.
