My 2022 Canyon AT4 grill is peeling. This topic is all over the internet, GMC is trying to tell me it’s caused by rock chips. This problem started at 9 months old. It’s clearly a factory defect yet I am being denied warranty. Any advice as court looks like my next step. Love the truck, the support from GMC at the moment is not great at all.

Rocks can absolutely do that. From the GM side, it is probably no different than paint chipping. You probably already know this, but if you have a shop PPF that trim, it will provide protection against flaking.

Whether or not the part arrived from the factory with a durable enough finish for its purpose - I guess your lawyer will get into that. They make these things as cheaply as possible. For what we pay, they should be so much more durable than they are!

I agree with the cheap part lol. However, if I have a rock chip in my paint the whole truck paint job does not peel away. Plus I have a two different auto body shops that have both stated this has nothing to do with rock chips. GMC tried to get a dark film to adhere to chrome and nothing adheres to chrome. This is their problem but they won’t address it. We shall see how it plays out, line I said, love the truck, just can’t believe the response I’m getting from GMC.

Do you use automatic car washes, cause that will do it.

Definitely unfortunate. Hope you get it sorted out!

I have a 2024 GMC AT4 and the upper grill did the same thing less than 2 months old, approximately 4500 miles. It’s definitely not rock chips regardless of what the dearer says. My dealership is ordering a new grill under warranty. They had to get it approved by warranty claims advisor before ordering it. It is on back order. Still waiting for it to come in.

I had a 2020 AT4 which did the same thing; however, it was 2 1/2 years old with 30K miles. Dealership said it was rock chips. I didn’t pursue it due to the age and mileage.

I would escalate to GM warranty satisfaction department.

Here’s a picture of my 2024 AT4. It is worse than the 2020.

I’m still fighting with gmc, find out today I hope. So far they offered to pay half. I said no, I’m not paying a cent !

One of my vendors has a brand new 1/2 ton D-Ultimate w/ the babymax. He had motor issues from delivery (not exactly sure what the problem was, but the dealer had the truck 2 months(!) waiting for parts. He has it back and I saw him the other day. I told him he should wrap the front grill as people have peeling issues. We looked at it and his has long strips of material peeled off. We guessed it was from the techs reaching into the engine bay and something on their clothes or belt scratching it. Needless to say, he is not happy.

This kind of thing is really disappointing. Even more, the response from GM. They should be accountable and replace these grills with better ones. But that surely will not happen. Hell, the tailgate problem stretches back 4 years and they are just now correcting it.

PS, Motortrend published a new review of an AT4X2500 a week ago. One of their "cons" is the grill finish flaking off:

"The grille looks tough and refined, with a gloss black header and copper insert bars for contrast. But with 1,003 miles on this truck's odometer, the copper is already flaking off."

I had an A4 diesel. The same thing happened. They replaced the grill for me and then somebody rear ended me in total my truck. I bought a at4 gas and the same thing happened to those grills GMC replaced them because I had an eight year warranty that I bought and it’s happening again so I’m gonna get a hold of them and see what fixes is or I’ll wait until the seventh year and then take it in and have them replaced the grills

Mine is a 2022. Started having problems as soon as I bought it. Ridiculous and getting worse everyday.
