Truck- 21 1500 AT4 July 21 production
So I purchased two Westin HDX grill guards for this truck and my wife’s suburban with installation ( I have a broken wrist).
they installed on my suburban Monday afternoon , stopped by to drop my truck off for Tuesday morning install ! They installed the one on her burban flawlessly , every thing lined up and adjusted perfectly. Went to get my truck after install Tuesday afternoon and they totally botched it- other than they did manage to get it level . They used or tried to use a razor blade to trim out a little on all four corners of the black insert and totally chopped the black insert to pieces. I was slammed and totally PO’d to say the least. I don’t understand why Westin doesn’t make the mounting bars correctly gor these very popular AT4 trucks . I definitely Don’t understand why they tried to use a typical razor blade to cut that thick of plastic and even worse , to try to make a radius cut at that! When that black plastic I’d trimmed it’s white underneath so this sticks out horribly . They ruined the insert but they said will
Purchase me a new one… they had no idea that it will take 3+ months to get the replacement part. He wouldn’t accept my payment for both installs or grill guards until he gets this fixed. I think these grill guards are very strong and are bar none the best looking ones out there IMHO.
He said that they didn’t know any other way to cut it and that’s what Westin told him they used.
I told him that when the replacement came in I would help him make a template from the damaged one and use my dremel or my die grinder and trim it out myself then paint the white plastic with the same manufacturer black paint.
As it turns out a different tech installed the one on the suburban and a young man tried to install mine - he cut the crap out of his hand trying to trim the plastic when the razor blade broke , he got frustrated and got in a hurry. I’m a forgiving man but this just sux!

That does suck, but at least they are making it right. I went with the Ranchhand Legend Series on mine, but was torn between it and the Westin. Only reason I went with the Ranchhand was that I have them on numerous pickups with no issues.

I’ve owned a bunch of RH’s also but I was drawn to these HDX series! We travel through a lot of bump gates in west and south Texas ,the extra width of the uprights along with them being hard rubber protected made my decision easy- at least I thought then lol! Yes, the owner of that shop is awesome!

For those who want the Westin HDX you can not use their included measurements for the cuts needed ! You don’t have to remove the grill or bumper either ! You take your measurements from the mounting brackets and make the cuts just big enough for the brackets to slide into the black piece and it comes out awesome Plus it will take 2 hours off of the install time! The Dremel is a must!
I’ll post some new pics later.
