GM Performance cold air intake

I was looking at picking up a used GM performance intake. The hang up I'm having is the tuning. When you purchase one new they provide a code so they dont charge for the tune for the CAI. Since it will be used I wont have a code (the codes are single use per intake). Has anyone taken there truck to have it tuned for the CAI without the code and just paid for the tune?

Just trying to decide if I want to buy the used intake.

I had one on my 6.2 Trailboss. It’s a simple calibration that the dealership does (or did when they installed it as an option when I bought the truck).

OK, maybe I will buy it if I can get it cheap enough knowing I will need to pay for the reflash. Pretty sure it throws a CEL after the install unless you have the reflash.

Yeah I have a friend (service tech) that works at a local dealership. He is looking into it for me with the GM tech line. The auction ended last night. I bought it at a steal of a price. $44.00 total (shipped). Cheap enough that is was worth the risk.

The OEM intake already draws "cold" air from the grill. Practically every modern car draws air from somewhere outside the hot engine bay. This will do nothing for performance but it does look cool.

Yes, I'm aware. Since it flows more air than the stock intake and there is a tune to compensate for more air I wouldn't say it will do "nothing". With that said I dont expect much, I thought it was low (cheap) risk. I do like the aesthetics of the performance intake better.

Intrigued... has anyone tried to install this intake on a newer model? I hav a 2023 AT4X, based on GM's parts finder this intake will not fit on any model except 2019's...

I installed the CAI last night. I was confused that there is a different prt# for a 5.3 vs a 6.2 since the motors are virtually the same. The install went smooth until I go to connecting the rubber elbow to the throttle body (TB). The 5.3 must have a smaller TB. I was able to use a die grinder and clearance the rubber to fit over my 6.2 TB. There was a lot of rubber on the flange so it made no structural difference. I figured I was only into this CAI for $45 so low risk if I screwed it up. I take it tomorrow for the tune.

Update. No luck on the tune/reflash. GM must have made a change along the way. No over the counter sales of these intakes. Your truck must contain the correct RPO code in order to be tuned. The attached came from GM tech support. No big deal. It is not throwing any check engine lights and I will run it as is. Again my investment is only $45.00.

I went with the k&n cold air intake on my 2024 2500 AT4, and it was a lot cheaper than the GM filter. I also did a Magnaflo stainless cat back system. I didn't have to re-tune my truck. I get smooth acceleration and a nice little growl with the exhaust. I did the same setup on my 2016 2500, and had a slight but noticeable "pulsing" on acceleration.

There was no tune. See the message above. They no longer sell these intakes OTC (over the counter). Remember I bought it used. It has to be ordered with the intake from from the factory. It is driven off your VIN number.
