Garage dimensions to fit AT4

Hey folks,

I'm about to begin building a house and I'm hoping to get some insights from the community. I own a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 crew cab with a short box, and I'm trying to determine comfortable dimensions for a garage that will fit the truck easily. I've researched the truck's dimensions, giving me a basic idea, but I'm curious to hear feedback from those who currently park their trucks in garages about any aspects they wish were different. My truck is completely stock. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What's the height of your garage door? I'm looking at a 7' garage door and the actual garage is about 22' feet deep

7 ft ok as long as you don't get crazy with additional lift

Make it bigger than you think you'll ever need. Then someday you'll wish you made it bigger. Trust me.

Make sure you have enough room on the sides so you can open your doors completely. Also make it long enough so you can pull it in and drop the tailgate with the door closed and still have some room to load small stuff.

Pull a tape to get your overall length (remember a trailer hitch makes it longer) then factor in how much more length you would want. It’s totally up to you. You will want to be able to at least move around in the garage with the door closed.

If I was in the position to have a garage built with my own spec I’d shoot for size large enough to get a 2500 in plus slightly more for future proofing.

What's the height of your garage door? I'm looking at a 7' garage door and the actual garage is about 22' feet deep

My garage is 235" deep and ended up being a few inches short for the length to fit. Garage is 7' tall and my government tracking antenna just barely squeaks under! My truck has the 20" wheels and the ATs that came with it. My undestanding is the MTs with the 18" wheels are not as tall of a tire/wheel combo so the truck should be even lower.

I'd go with an 8' garage door height for sure. As for length, 30' leaves you two or three feet on either end. I have a 25' and with a hitch, no fit.

Build enough room to get out of the passenger door, also a separate door to exit along with the garage doors.

Are you in control of how big your garage can be or are you asking if it'll fit in the size the builder is presenting it in? The short bed exists just for this reason. To fit (albeit barely) into a standard garage which is usual about 22' deep. Will your truck fit? Yes, but it'll be cramped especially in a single garage. Double with double door, you'll be parking in the middle to give you the space you'd like. If you have to share that space with anything, again, it'll be tight. If you are able to make it larger and have the dimensions of your current truck, just make it larger.

or decide to go 3/4 - 1 ton in the future. go with a 8ft door
