Has anyone run across or actually done a volumetric check of the 1500 AT4 fuel tank to variety the GMC claim of 24 gal ? I always seem to put several gal more in the tank then the gage would suggest. This morn indicated dead on 1/2 tank and added 13.8.
Now, I always use(locally) same station , same pump and fill to third click off.
I should have kept my Sacangauge from the Tacoma.

My gauge is off. I’ve notice that 1/2 a tank is really about 14 gallons also. I’ve had mine down to what I thought was pretty low. Never been able to get over 22.5 gallons. Pretty sure that the 24 gallons is right.

I have the duramax if that matters

I’m curious as well, when it’s windy (almost always) I get horrible gas mileage (6.2L, 93 octane, shell V-Power preferred) so I have a 4.5gal rotopax that I would keep full but it gets so hot here I’ve seen it bulge which is unnerving. Mine has the hole for the def right next to the tank, was wondering how much work/cost would be involved with installing a second tank and throwing the spare in the bed or tire carrier. Anyone done any digging into this?

I have the banks installed with the duramax to keep an eye on regens... My gauge is off as well. See attached pics.. I was almost half way in between a 1/4 and empty and put 23.59 in. I do put more in after it has clicked off, but I definitely watch it when it gets below a quarter now.

Same for the HDs. Manual says it holds 36 gallons. But I've never been able to get more than 32 gallons even when gauge is pegging E. If anything, the gage is showing less gas than actual on my rig.

It would probably take 2 gallons just to cover the bottom of the tank about an inch!

The light always comes on with about 50 or so miles left to go, I think the manufacturers build this little safety net into the system. with the light on I put about 22 gallons into the tank.

I also don't believe the fuel level sensors are linear. They move slower from full to half than they do from half to empty.

and i'm pretty sure every vehicle is like this
