Front end protection

Standard is clear PPF. Most OEM’s offer it or you can do it aftermarket.

However most higher end detailers recommend against PPF on the front end. Bug guts tend to stain clear PPF then the front end never looks that good. If bugs are stuck to it for days or in high temps you can end up with cloudy or yellowish stain. More visible on some paint colors.

For that reason those higher end detailers recommend ceramic coating. High hardness that protects the paint but won’t stain.

Can also do a hood deflector in combination with ceramic coating. Also bras but those tend to leave marks on the paint under them.

I have done both. Ceramic on all my cars which I am happy with. But it won’t protect against rock chips the way PPF can. Our new Lexus GX 550 came with front end PPF and we have white paint and I can already see stains on the PPF and the car is only 4 months old. Will probably pull off the PPF and ceramic the front end instead.

In my view it depends on how picky you are, paint color, and what you are trying to protect against the most

I absolutely recommend PPF. I have been using it religiously on my vehicles for many-many years now. I have ceramic coated over the top of the PPF which I believe eliminates the yellowing or hazing. I also wash my truck every other week at the minimum. In the end you just cannot leave the bugs and bird poop on your paint (with or without ceramic coating) for very long before it begins to eat away at the paint or coatings.

My previous truck, a Chevy Trail Boss (with the black front end) had 45K highway miles when I traded it in. The front end looked brand new.

Maybe Im not understanding the question exactly but what about a “Clear Bra”? I think that is the right terminology? I have it on 2 vehicles and it’s extremely protective and barely visible. If Im off base I apologize.
