The RV is what ultimately steered us to the AT4 we have. We need a vehicle for 4 kids that we can tow behind the motorhome. At the time, we had my wife’s Audi Q7 which couldn’t be towed since it was AWD. Then we had the spare Escalade which couldn’t be towed because it is AWD. And lastly we had my LML 2500 Duramax which could be towed but weighed almost 8,000 lbs so was not an option.

We sold the Q7 and the Duramax and bought the AT4. I’m about to buy a baseplate kit for it but am realizing 2 things:
1. The iconic red tow hooks will need to be removed in order to attach the base plates.
2. I will need to mount an electric plate for towing connections somewhere on the bumper.

I’m not happy about either of these. If there was a red tow hook option to swivel into the baseplate that wouldn’t be a bad option.

Im hoping I can find a way to connect the truck to the RV electric harness (just like plugging in a trailer) that doesn’t require mounting a plate on the bumper.

Any chance others here are towing their AT4?

Im in the same boat. I was hoping to engineer the red hooks to fit when not towing. Hope someone with experience will chime in. What brake system did you or are you going with?

I put a Blue Ox kit on mine and painted the receiver red to mimic the tow hooks. Not a perfect solution, but it is red. Plug in red tow hooks would be great

small side bar question: can you flat tow with the Allison transmission?
I remember something in the OM. I think you just shift the transfer case into neutral. If'n you have the 2 speed case, which all AT4's should have if it's not standard equipped.

We used to tow our Raptor behind our RV. We installed the AirforceOne braking system, which operates off of the air-brakes in the coach. We had both our Raptor and our Jeep set up to tow that way and it worked great.

The Raptor had OEM tow hoops below the front bumper. I bought a model-specific Roadmaster tow system for the truck. In order to install it the factory tow hoops had to be removed. Once the brackets were installed all you could see were the two female receivers — basically 1.5” pipes — facing forward. I wanted the truck to appear stock when it wasn’t being towed, so I cut the inserts with spring-locking pins off of my old Roadmaster tow bar, and welded them onto the factory tow hoops. A little welding, grinding, and painting and they looked OEM. When I wanted to tow I’d remove the hoops and clip in the tow bar. When we got where we were going I’d release the tow bar and snap the hoops back in, so the only hint that it was a toad was the air fitting and break-free connection in the skid plate (to plug in the brakes). You could do exactly the same thing with your truck.

If you look at the photo below you’ll see the removable connecting pieces that are held in place with a spring-loaded pin. You just need a second set of those, so you can cut the U-shaped piece off the end and weld on your OEM hooks. Then add some red paint and you’re done!
