Factory Running Board LED lights

Thats a future project; I basically need to mod it to have them come on each time a door is opened and not only when locking or unlocking. It is so annoying; say I'm picking up someone curbside, late evening or in the dark, engine running, door/s open, darn lights don't come on. Thats the first mod I need to work on once I have other projects done. This weekend's project is to complete tailgate open, alarm/indicator; my prototype works on the bench, I need to install it in the truck.

i'm looking for them to light up at night while driving

I get that. We will need to get into the BCM to try and override a function or sensor; everything is computer/software controlled in these new vehicles. It may not be as simple as that. Needs investigating; I have the capabilites; like I said its a future project for me. Someone else may come up with an alternative sooner.

I’m working on it bc it annoys he hell out of me that the step lights only work with an idiotic combination of situations.
They should come on Every time a door opens on the truck.

If you want to look under the truck and get the wiring colors for me. (I had knee surgery last week, I can’t) I went through the entire electrical diagram last week while my knee is healing.
There is nothing labeled as step light or light for the power step module or near where the wires are on the diagram. At least in the gmupfitter 1200 page pdf.

There are a few options on the BCM Pinouts that one of them should be the power wire or control wire for the running board lights.

BCM 7 GY connector, pin 17 BU wire - puddle lamp control

BCM 2 BU connector, pin 5 VT/GN wire- Front Footwell Accent Lighting Control

Whichever wire is down there. I think it’s the puddle lamp wire. One could likely remove it from the BCM plug and connect it to the interior light signal.

Hope your knee feels better buddy.
Thanks for the BCM info. I'll look into it soon; I need to finish my tailgate open alarm indicator today, almost done.

It's really a shame gm eliminated the tailgate notification on the DIC for the refreshed.

Maybe not as much as a 12v port, but close.

Any luck on the follow-up of losing the wires for the LED lights on the running boards? Looking to tie the puddle lamp and running boards lights to the dome light and just trying to narrow it down to which wire it is.

Did you ever figure this out? I have multi color LED's I am putting in the footwell and wand white to come on with the door opening and blue with the running lights.

Nope! Just haven't had the time. The steps light project will have to wait until spring time due to other unrelated projects.

Where did you find the PDF that listed the BCM pinouts? I have been looking on the Uplifter site and can't find them.
