Hello everyone!

Currently in a '16 SLT but going to buy a '24 1500 AT4 in Thunderstorm Gray with the standard size bed as soon as I can find decent financing. I have 2 questions I'm hoping you can help me out with.

1. I read in the spring on what appeared to be an official GM press release AND on GM Authority (https://gmauthority.com/blog/2023/04/2024-gmc-sierra-to-offer-new-power-retractable-assist-steps/) that the 1500 AT4's were getting the power retractable running boards. I'm not seeing them available to order so I'm assuming that idea was just a rumor?

2. I'm at a loss on which engine to choose. I've never owned a diesel but I'm reading good things about the 3.0. I'm very familiar with the 6.2 as I own a C7 Corvette but I'm not excited about the gas mileage or using premium gas in my DD. I do not plan on towing anything heavy, this will strictly be my DD.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated!

1. I’m unaware of a power board option from GM on an AT4. I’m going with AMP Research.

2. I haven’t had the diesel, always go 6.2. I always get 20+ mpg and love the power. I don’t tow much but think the bigger motor is worth it, even with premium fuel. Had 6.2s since 2007.

Just picked up my '24 Friday and as far as I know and can tell they don't have a factory power running board for the AT4. I would have bought them myself. I also looked for AMP research ones and couldn't find any so I ordered the Rough Country power boards, they are essentially an AMP look alike at half the price.

I think I'm leaning towards the 6.2 as well and I would be real happy if I could get that kind of gas milage from it. I can't even get that with my 5.3 now.

Congrats on the purchase! That looks really close to what I want to get. If the reports I read weren't just a total fabrication, I'm thinking it might be a supply chain issue (go figure). I guess I'll have to look into aftermarket as well.
Do the Rough Country plug into the OBD port as well?

Every 5.3 I’ve had got mid-teens mpg and unless it’s geared high, is a dog. The 6.2 doesn’t work as hard so you’ll get better mpg plus if you want bigger tires or need to tow, you’ll be happy with the power.

I was in the same boat, luckily my dealer had this one already coming in and it wasn't pre-sold so I bought it the day after Thanksgiving. They said I could order one but it would take at least 6 months to get it, so I wrote them a check for the truck before it was even on the lot. They did track it to being "on the train" so they said it would be about 2 weeks before it came in. And it was exactly 2 weeks to the day. So I am thankful.

As for the running boards, I have no idea about how they install but the guy who does all of my lighting and wiring work on all of my vehicles has them on his dually and he said they work great. Amp is just a name people are more familiar with.

I opted to not go Rough Country because they aren’t plug and play. AMP are. Search YouTube and watch the Rough Country install video.

I went with AMP. Just look better imo. I found a new in box set on facebook marketplace for $1000 and installed them myself. Best 1000 I’ve spent. I also have the 6.2 and was weary of putting a lift on it because of the gas mileage. But I couldn’t resist. Installed the 4” bds coil over and get around 15 mpg which isn’t bad considering what I’ve gotten in past lifted z-71s. You just have to decide what you want. Either way you’ll be happy. I am. Especially with the sound of that 6.2.

Not the best pic, but this is it dirty. And the only one since I added the amp steps. lol

One of the many reasons I ordered a 2500 AT4 was the factory power steps, not available on the 1500 AT4 but standard on the 1500 Denali. I come to automotive forums from the Jeep world and there people have tons of problems with aftermarket power steps. I actually like the 1500 better but the 2500 at virtually the same price is a much better deal. I would have definitely gone with the 6.2, regretted getting the 5.3 for the last 8.5 years.

Nice find! Lift looks awesome! I've decided I'm going with the 6.2 when the time comes. I'll probably give the AMP steps a try as well.

Awesome. FYI-With my lift I average about 15mpg. So glad I went with the amps. It makes the truck look like a different animal, easy to install, and get a lot of compliments! Good Luck.
