Engine exhaust cleaning

I’ve got 7,000 miles on my 3.0L engine and I’ve only noticed it do a regen once, a message in the DIC said to keep driving if possible. So I did but it was just around town. How often do these engines do a regen? I know it likely depends on driving conditions, but I wish the light would come on when it starts and ends the process.

Just picked up a new 2026 3L AT4 last Saturday and have had 3 regen cycles in first 200 miles.

Because of all the regens fuel mileage is averaging 15 mpg. Has anyone else experienced this?

There are no notices given unless you're running an idash or edge cts. You only know by smell and mpg or if you keep turning it off without letting it Regen you get a check emissions error etc

Sounds excessive but could also be normal. There's a break in period usually 3-4k miles for the emissions. It's also possible that your first Regen can't complete because you aren't driving the 30 miles for a full Regen so it keeps going into it. If that is the case, you should go on a 30 mile trip asap before you go into limp mode.

My emissions were happening every 200-250 miles and now it's 550-680 depending on the driving I do leading up to

Can't recommend a idash or edge cts enough. You're going to run into problems only the dealer can solve if you aren't allowing a full Regen to take place every time. On the HDs it's 30 miles highway speeds for a full Regen to take place so I imagine it's the same for the 1500s.

I may have noticed an exhaust type of smell inside the cab, while driving up the mountains to Whistler BC however can’t be sure if that was the case. On my diesel Mercedes, the smell is quite distinct.

13,000 in 6 months here. I’ve had a few. I still have a bad habit of leaving my truck running when parked taking calls, opening the laptop ect. First not fleet diesel for me. Probably affects the regens..

You don't get a regen notice, but I didn't get my first "keep driving at hwy speeds" notice until around 35-40k. Only had it come up once. Assuming it was from a lot of short trips and regen could never complete

I did some digging up and using a very old ODB2 scanner got the info I needed for my truck and it appears the REGEN occurs far more frequently than I imagined; average distance is 221miles and average time between regens is 5hrs

Sounds like your emission system is on a ticking time bomb.
