Whilst I had the hood open yesterday to connect a battery charger to the port side battery (aka driver side), I noticed coolant level in Low Temp Cooling Circuit Coolant Reservoir was at a mark 'which appeared to be' at minimum level mark. I later looked up the 6.6L Duramax Diesel Engine Supplement (all hard copy manuals were provided at time of sale) and it appears that's exactly the level it should be at; it wasn't low at all. I was so tempted to add DEX-COOL and glad I did not.

The AEV being somewhat lifted and with my now shrunken 5'9" frame I need to use a ladder to peek into anything close to the firewall in the engine bay. I know these trucks have all types of level sensors, alarms and indicators, but how often do you guys check oil, coolant levels etc. in your newer trucks and not rely entirely on DIC notifications?

I usually take a peek under the hood every couple months, just to check on fluids. With your winters coming up there in the PNW, I'm sure you'll be getting under the hood to add washer fluid at least that frequently.

Thats a long gap! Reminds me, I need to stock up with winter washer fluid.

Are you saying you're not under that hood daily to keep it that clean? 😁

I open the hoods to change oil. I do look under vehicles before starting them. They are all on clean concrete floors.
