I watched a video yesterday featuring a new SLT 2500. The guy making the video said many people had that issue with shifter blocking the screen but it was fine on that truck. Then he realized that GMC SLT HAD THE CHEVY INTERIOR! If you have taken a close look at the Chevy interior in the 2024 HD the center stack of vents, screen, climate control and switches is different. First thing I noticed is the switches are just below the screen and the climate controls are on the bottom. It also does not have a space for the console shifter like the GMC AT4 HD does. I'm used to seeing different interiors with/without bucket seats but all of these have bucket seats.

The Chevy and GM share interior layout in the 1500 too depending on trim level. My elevation was the first style and my at4 is the second.

The stick is still in the same place just the angle of that last photo makes it seem more in the way. Look closer. This is what the HD guys wanted - column shift. Makes no sense in this interior but they sure were concerned that console shifter would make them less of a man somehow.

Nope not manly it is the fact the center console shifter is electronic vs manual. Give me a circa 1990‘s manual shifter and I don’t care if it is column or center console. Give me electronic either column or center console no thanks.

however I am now really thinking on this shifter topic about the SLT vs the AT4. My dealer has an equally equipped SLT right now on the lot, my AT4 comes shortly. Wondering if this will irritate me enough to get around no HUD and the chrome.

I don't mind an electronic shifter if done well.

After 2 months and 3400 miles, I absolutely hate the column shifter in my '24 AT4 HD. I came to like the knob shifter in my '20 Ram 1500, so the column shift let is like a big step backwards for me. I've gotten used to using the column shifter, but it's always in the way of the most important side of the touchscreen...so I find it interesting that it wasn't an issue for the Chevy style trim.

If you look closely the screen on the Chevy style (as well as GMC SLT style) is higher, it's at the top of the center stack. The AT4 has the center air vents on top then screen below it. I believe that would be the difference in blocking or not. I think the screen being higher in the Chevy interior to be better but the climate control on that style is at the very lowest position, I dont like that.

Good observation. I'm not sure I'd like that solution either...

What I'd maybe like to see is a shorter column shifter. I don't know how they could do that without making it harder to use tho.

Imo the biggest mistake ever made is these electronic knob shifters. They tried this fad years ago. We are getting more electronic stuff to go wrong and again imo just another thing to fail. That is one reason I passed on the Rebel. My hope is for GM to advance their interior designs but not to band wagon on RAM and foreign ideas. Again IMO.

see I went with the AT4 specifically for the vent location(among other things). I have kids and like the vents above the screen to send air toward the back of the cab.

That's a good point Jester 314! My kids complained about my previous '19 Denali 1500 and the puny air vents at the end of the center console. Plus the '19 had vertical center dash vents that didn't do much for the kids in the crew cab on a hot day. My new '23 AT4 1500 is way better for them with the higher mounted, horizontal center vents. Unfortunately the rear console vents are the same as before.

Its something most people don't think about but, that is one reason why I went with the AT2 over a trail boss or the Chevy ZR2. Only the AT4 and Denial have that specific interior with the center vents located where they are.

That's exactly right.

Took delivery of my AT4 today and drove her 200 miles home.
The shifter for me is not in the way of the screen or the controls. is it absolutely perfect placement it is not, would it stop me from driving the truck or loving it, no definitely not.

I just read that the '24 yukon refresh is getting the column stalk back, where it belongs. Dumping the console shifter.
