Today my screen said there was and update, and it would take about 15 minutes. I did the update and the truck said it completed successfully. After that, truck would not start. After 30 minutes and about 5 different people on OnStar, they arranged for a tow truck to the dealer. Truck only has about 1400 miles. Not happy. They gave me a '26 1500 as a loaner. I'm also concerned for batteries since screens and rear view mirror camera would not shut off. It's going to sit like that until service gets to it on Monday.

Lesson learned. Don't do an update, take it to the dealer and have them do it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't do updates and have all the GM services disabled for a reason.

"Over-the-Air Software Updates. The owner is responsible for ensuring all GMC-provided Over-the-Air software update are installed within 45 days of software availability to the vehicle. Damage resulting from failure to install Over-the-Air software updates is not covered."

Unless you need it. I would not be happy having to pay for a new transmission on a truck I just purchased because I failed to do the required software updates.
These updates do more harm than good. If I don't have a problem, I shouldn't be forced into an update. In regard to the transmission, I'm about to buy me a Suncoast valve body so that common failure point isn't something I'm going to worry over. They also recently cracked transmission tuning on the 23 and older L5P without removing the TCM. I'm sure the 24+ isn't far behind! There goes my warranty

Anyway, the dealer had it fixed today. They say they had to "force" the update. Everything good now. I had them test both batteries and all cells good. I told them any future update notifications, I'm coming in for them to do it. They said they are good with that.

Here is the dealer write-up.

New software update installed today; I waited until it showed up while parked in my garage; took 15 minutes and succeeded. No idea what it fixes or adds.

Update N25-250403 aims to improve check engine light accuracy and improve behavior of the aero shutter system in freezing temperatures.

Thanks. Good to know. I had no idea the truck had active aero shutters; pretty cool I think.
