What does the consumption look like for those that have had their trucks for a while? I am only 1300 miles in and my gauge has barley moved at all. I was expecting to have to refill it every 4-5 tanks but it is not looking to be the case which is nice.
I think in the last year I bought two jugs of course no towing

I put about 2 gallons in every 1500-2000 miles. No towing. Don’t trust the gauge it’s not accurate.

I get about 5k-6k miles out of a DEF tank.

I learned to not trust the gauge though. A couple week's ago I got the 1,000 miles left of DEF message, and within 50 miles I got a new message saying only 140 miles left. Luckily I kept a box in the garage for just such an occasion.

I go about 2.5 to 3 gallons per oil change. Roughly 7k miles no towing. I just fill it at the truck stops. Like others said the gauge jumps around

Same as others when not towing, but when towing and running fairly hard (over speed limit) if goes rather fast. The low message comes on and then shortly after the caution of limiting soon shows up. I to have learned to keep a jug aboard when towing.

Gauge barely moves not towing. I loaded the truck and loaded a u-haul and towed from Texas to Cape Cod and burned through a jug+.

There is a TSB for the Duramax that we had done on our 2023 Yukon diesel, and it drastically helped our DEF gauge be more accurate (when towing - otherwise, we just fill the DEF when it gets to half way or whatever). Let me find the link. I would suspect the same TSB would apply to the Sierra.

This is a good article to read to understand how the gauge works:

Here is the actual TSB:

I added 2.5 gallons at 3500 miles and another 2.5 at 7000. No towing. I've been adding when the DIC shows 3 bars.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but just out of curiousity ....what is the capacity of the DEF tanks on the 1500' AT4 models ?
I agree with most folks on here, once you start putting that truck to work it'll use more def fluid. Got a coworker with a 21' Elevation+ with the LM2 motor 3.0 Duramax and it has been running like a dream. No issues what so ever, and barely uses any def fluid however he doesn't tow with it either.

5.4 gallons

Glad to know that. I had thought it was 4. I was pumping DEF in at a truck stop when it was close to empty and it went past 4 gallons and finally stopped at 5. Was worried I overfilled it
Oh it has no problem overflowing all over your vehicle! Unless it’s a premature stop, don’t “top off” with another pull of the handle; when it overflows, it gets all over everything. I’ve learned the hard way more than once with both the diesel and the def to let it stop and then not to top off!!

Thanks for this!

As for the original post, not towing, I only add def every 5000-6000 miles. Always from a pump. Towing… maybe every 1500-2000 miles or so.
