I purchased a 2022 AT4 Pro Carbon 11/9/21. With the 25% off on GM Accessories, I ordered the REV Tonneau Cover for the Pro Carbon bed. Installation was $69. For that fee, I decided it would be better to let the 'professionals' do it. The tonneau was delivered to the dealership last week and scheduled to be installed last Thursday, 11/18, at 1:30. I took the day off to get a few other things done and was going to wax the tonneau that afternoon when I picked it up. At 4:00 I get a call from my salesman telling me that they didn't have all the parts to do the install. (I guess it took them 2.5 hours to figure that out?). I asked what was missing and he said 'the clamps'. I explained that there shouldn't be clamps for the carbon fiber bed and that I was concerned about the install. He said he would call me back after he talked to the service department. Called back 20 min later and said they had all the parts, but wouldn't have time to install that day and had to keep it until the next. I had an appointment to get the front windows tinted the next day, so my salesman delivered the truck there. When he arrived I took a quick look at the tonneau and the rear passenger side corner was about 1/8" above the bed. (ie: gasket not touching) So, visually it is higher on one side than the other. I picked up the truck Friday afternoon from the tint shop, but didn't have a chance to really look over the cover until yesterday.

I walked around and looked at the rails from the outside and see that the gasket/flange of the rails is not touching in the center of the Drivers side rail, and the front of the Passenger side rail is very high. I'm going to throw a hose on it today to see how bad it leaks, but it will leak. Then I got in the bed after I folded up the cover. They left it a mess, didn't sweep up any of the drill shavings. In the beginning this was just an annoyance, but then I looked a little closer.

THEY DRILLED 4 HOLES IN THE BED! Not the rails for the installation, THE BED!

They gave me no paperwork (invoice or instructions) jfor the cover, but I will be amazed if the instructions call for drilling 'weep' holes in the bed.

Sorry for the long post, but I'd appreciate any feedback before my conversation with the service manager on Monday.
1) Anyone know if the 'weep' holes are proper?
2) Anyone have any suggestions of how to get the rails mounted down on the bed rails?

Thanks and apologize this is one of my first posts.
PIcs of the rails and look close in the last 2 pics and you'll see the 'weep' holes.

Yikes, sorry that happened. I would request:
  • They refund you the entire cost of the install AND cover, to make up for the inconvenience.
  • They fix it properly.
  • If the holes in the bed end up being a problem, they properly fix that also.
Then, if you can, find a new dealer. Or try get stuff installed by a shop that knows what they are doing.

Good luck.

I agree with what RCD said above. This is THEIR mistake and it’s on THEM to make it right. Either they need to:
1) Fix it and make it EXACTLY correct and refund installation fee.
2) Remove it all and refund all money and then compensate for whatever erroneous holes were drilled.
Make them explain it all to you and if necessary don’t be afraid to go way above their heads and talk to Manager, Owner or Corporate. If need be, video the conversation and get everything in writing. Be sure you are keeping detailed notes and pictures of everything that has happened in the process. This is a problem they have created, not you. They will try and explain it all away with excuses, but do not leave there until YOU are 100% happy and satisfied. If you are not satisfied with their explanation, just keep demanding to talk to their boss and keep going up that ladder. I’d also file a written complaint with GMC Corporate. And then never return to that dealership. As you can see, I am fired up about this situation and I’m don’t even have a dog in the fight! Just be persistent and demanding, they will try to talk you away. Make them make it right as this inexcuseable. And don’t forget DOCUMENTATION- DOCUMENTATION- DOCUMENTATION! Not sure where you are located, but I wish I could drive there and be your wingman! Good luck and let us know.

Thank you both for the comments and emotion! I did take a closer look and also sprayed it down with the hose to see it leak exactly where you would think and funny enough, the pools of water never drained thru the weep holes. I was going to email or call GMC, but they are pretty tight with communication to corporate. I planned to ask if I would void my warranty if I drilled holes the carbon fiber bed. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but it would be good info to have going into the dealership. I believe the crappy install can be corrected, probably by me, but I'm concerned if there is some sort of point load near those holes that it is now weakened and could crack/spider web along with the fact that any moisture/debris that can go out of those holes can also come in. This will be nice in the Western PA winters along with a rainy vacation drive when the bed is filled with luggage. I'll keep you posted.

I had the same cover installed but my installation went fine. It leaks a little but so did my other one on my old pick up. Your looks like maybe a little bit of a bad install and it might have some manufacturing issues. As for the weeping holes are you saying they drilled additional ones other than the factory ones that are there already? I think part of the problem with the covers is the carbon pro bed does not have the holes up top to route the drain hose that a cover on a normal bed would have. I will take a few pictures of mine maybe tonight so you have something to compare as far as another carbon Pro bed with the REV cover installed.

So, after a discussion with IBMC 92, a little more research, and taking a closer look at the bed, it seems that the 4 weep holes are factory, along with a few more at the front of the bed. With all the shavings left behind and the poor installation I may have jumped to a conclusion. After finding and looking at some pictures on the web, I found pictures showing the weep holes. On a good note, I'm glad I only have to deal with a poor installation and talked to the service manager. He was very apologetic and assured me that it would be installed properly this upcoming Monday along with providing me with all the paperwork. I am cautiously optimistic. Thanks for the responses, especially IBMC 92!

After doing more research this is the same cover as the Bak Flip MX4.I was able to pull up the instructions for the carbon pro bed. It shows the slots where the bolts go and complete install instructions. They just need to loosen your bolts and press down on the track and retighten. Also I ordered the MX4 upgrade kit for $13 from Bak Flip which finishes off the cover nicely. Fingers crossed it fits. lol Just an FYI not sure if they drilled the drail holes in the front corner of your bed but I did not have that done on mine. I am going to plug the drain spouts that come out from under the front of the rails and see if that works ok.

Update. The dealership re-installed the rails and they now sit on the bedrails like it should. They couldn't get the rear of the tonneau to sit level at the tailgate, so they ordered a new tonneau cover to re-re-install. I had some time yesterday and took some measurements and then loosened up 4 of the 5 bolts on the psgr side and put 2 quick clamps on the rail and re-tightened the bolts. It looks a lot better, like it should. Not sure if I'm going to have them do the install again. I also had them take a look at the (short) rear storage lid under the seat that disconnects every time it's opened. The service manager said he checked another with the storage and it did the same, but he ordered another lid under warranty. So, results are mixed but effort is pretty good so far. Time will tell.

Luckily, the dealership that installed the TRI for on the truck I bought, did it correctly. The installer also didn't drill the side drain holes for the drain hoses. I was pleasantly surprised at that. Seems as though the carbon pro bed doesn't have those drilled like the regular beds do.

What’s in the MX4 upgrade kit. I did the same as mentioned above with 25% coupon. Looking at the diagram of the cov from GMC, it must be made by same company. I’ve had 3 MX’s in the past with no major issues.

I’m starting to hate the carbon pro bed. I have a cover and did it myself. But can’t find ANY bed accessories or racks.
It isn't easy now. Just give it some time, whatever your patience will allow. I bought the rubber mat through GMC that goes in the bed, only to trim it to fit. Totally different layout.

Eventually we will get stuff fitted.
