Considering 2500 AT4X

Welcome...I love mine! I've had it since November and the only issue I've had in 3k miles is the black sticker on the tailgate (AEV Edition) bubbled up in the 1st month. Dealer replaced and it did it again, so they sent it to a body shop and it's been good. Good Luck with your purchase! Lots of helpful folks on here!

Wow! I have the same truck and wasn't aware theres a black sticker anywhere; do you have a photo please?

It's only with the AEV Edition.

Hello, I'm considering a new AT4x 2500. I always find the best info on forums, so here I am!
Welcome!

I love mine too, but I’ve got less than 700 miles on mine, so my opinion isn’t worth much yet.

If you are coming from Ford, Ram, or Jeep there’s a long list of conveniences and features that are not available on the AT4X, and the stereo and nav systems aren’t up to other OEM systems, but there’s a long list of positives that offset those negatives for most.

I get it now 💡; it's only something used on non-black vehicles or is it. Looks really bad. Hang on, let me take a closer look at mine. Hah! I'll be darned! Even my Black Onyx has the same covering but its not bubbling or anything.

Keep an eye on it...mine was delivered 11/23. I could take it or leave it, but the wife likes it and said if it fails again to see if the dealer will help out with Rhino Linning to look similar.

Welcome! I just purchased a new AT4 last month and now I'm wishing I would've just pulled the trigger on the AT4X instead 🤣

I'm coming from Ram and didn't realize GM uses an independent front suspension (I had no reason to even check). Now I'm looking at having to lift my truck just to fit 35's. That's craziness. The AT4X comes with the 2" lift and 35's from the factory.

The only cons I have with the Sierra HD's are the audio system (totally sucks compared to Ram and Ford) and the placement of the infotainment screen. The audio can be "fixed" with a better (and more) speakers along with a sub and amplifier. No biggie. The infotainment screen, on the other hand, is a much, much bigger concern in my book. Personally, if I had to do it again, I'd buy the Chevy Silverado 2500 ZR2 instead. Chevy put the center air vents to the right and left of the infotainment screen. That's key because it pushes the screen to the right making the shifter handle less of a distraction when trying to use the screen while driving. The GMC model has the vents on top of the screen which pushes the screen further to the left. That means the shifter handle is literally in the way whenever you're driving. Kind of a dumb design fail for GM in my book. Oh well. Lesson learned on my part.

Regardless, the AT4X is an awesome truck.

I totally miss my stereo in my '16 Ram Laramie Longhorn with the Alpine system! I replaced the 8" factory subwoofer with a JL Audio...what a difference, but even the factory system on the Ram was WAY better than my AT4X!

I traded in a '21 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition with a Harmon Kardon system (14 speakers and sub). The audio was amazing. My 2010 F150 had better audio than this new AT4. Honestly, this "concert quality" system is on-par with what came in my 1989 Ford Probe GL. I'm shocked that GM puts their name on this system. The competition is killing them in the audio department.

Don't get me wrong though. I do love the drivetrain on this truck. This truck (2500 gasser) is soooooo smooth. My Power Wagon was more fun to drive thanks to the gears (it had 4.10's) and the 8-speed tranny, but it wasn't the smoothest ride.

I ordered an AT4X HD and it arrived early April. Dual batteries and alternators, 5th wheel, everything I wanted. When I did a test drive before ordering, I never even turned on the audio or used the screen. I was all about the ride and shocks, and was blown away. When mine arrived, I went for a thorough drive and specifically wanted to use the screen and see what I thought about the shifter / screen position. Well, it bugged the s*^t out of me, enough that I passed on the purchase. My ZR2 order is accepted and I was able to dial it in exactly as I wanted. No sunroof, no tailgate audio. No massaging seats, that is the one thing you can't really get on the ZR2. But I got to say, the ZR2 seats are definitely more comfortable than the stock GMC AT4 seats, so I am not at all displeased. I'm also happy to get out of black interiors, which I seem to have on every vehicle. But either way, both trucks have the awesome shocks / lift / tire package.

I honestly didn't even think about testing the audio or the screen prior to purchase. Like you, I was more focused on the ride quality and performance. It's ok though. While it bugs the crap out of me, I'm ok with the truck.

@pinebaron or anyone else with an X.

Is this a removable plug to be able to install rear lights? Just right of the park assist sensor...

The GMC front end looks great. I also like the ZR2. On the inside, I really prefer the Chevy layout. I plan to have mine a long time (getting a gasser) and while it is hard to pass on the AT4X, I think I'll be happier with the ZR2. But same great ride either way!
