Looking at purchasing drop down running boards as the wife and kids are complaining already and with some new shoes on the horizon it will only get worse. Looking at possibly installing them myself. I’ve looked at both of the installation videos, and they seem very detailed making me think this is something that I can easily accomplish and save 5/6 hundred dollars. Curious to hear others feed back from previous experiences with both products. Had factory boards on previous vehicles, and tried to get the factory ones out on this truck but was told no from the dealer.

I went with the Go Rhino electric boards (similar to Amp and Rough Country) and with the help of a friend, it took about 5 hours. Attaching the mounts and boards is the easy part, it's the running of all the wires that is time consuming. I wouldn't say any of it is difficult though...

You got this man!

I like the boost in that you can have light be a turn signal, that said I ultimately went anp power vision, really based on the amp reputation. If you are android the amp app is not currently in the play store 🤦‍♂️ they are working on it. I liked the plug n play aspect and options to make colors what I wanted them. Usually do installs my self, but was short on time and had them installed. That said I had to re go through everything anyhow after a poor install.... Really get the one with features that matter to you - either install is similar and not that difficult.

Appreciate the info. Any issues? How long have you had them? I’m looking more at the boost, but concerned about longevity. They say they will last longer and better built than AMP but I know the AMP name for a reason. Clearly it’s a go to for a lot of people.

My concern was ice and longevity ...so far so good just under a year..... If amp would do the sequential turn signal then it would be a no brainer for me. Ice has been no problem, there are some issues if you unplug ob2 with door open, there is a sequence of opening doors to get it back in sync, not difficult and only issue.

I have sequential fender markers, really like that in the boosts..... But I don't need them to be white..... If leaning boost is go for it, boost has quality parts and no reason to think the steps would be anything less than the amps, IMHO

I have the Amp Research. Installed them by myself and it took about 8 hours. A second set of hands would have been awesome.

Yikes!! 8 hours for the install is crazy!! That would be a no go for my old beat up body. I know this is comparing apples to oranges. My brothers Toyota Tacoma had AMP Research installed at the dealer while he waited. It was less than 2 hours from the time he pulled it in to dealer to out the driveway going home.

I'm hoping when I get my truck the drop down steps are already installed. I assumed the AT4X 2500 came with retractable steps standard?

Took about 5.5 hours when i did my rough country steps. Def longer than i thought it would but the most time is just running the wires then securing it all after testing.

I did my AMP steps in about 4h solo. Hardest part was making sure the wires are placed away from heat and moving parts. Went with AMP as I liked the OBD2 connection. The magnets while small don’t look OEM. I added a manual override switch as well and have that at the base of the drivers seat. I like that at car washes or times I want to keep them up with the doors open.

Note: amp app is not in play store currently - which boggles my mind, as I had deleted the app and need to re install it

It is still available for apple 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I've never been burnt from this website. You'll have to give your phone "permission" to install apk's outside of the playstore. Damn google...

I used to be fearful. I'd install vendors old apk's on an old phone that worked over wifi and make sure it was legit, before installing on my daily phone. I don't do that now from apkpure's website.

I’d try anyone else instead of Amp if I went aftermarket.
Why?

Had or know of 5 sets of Amp steps. All of them had issues by two years old- failed motors, main controller computer, harness issues, not opening/closing, odb plug issues, steps not closing level.
The 2025 Amp kits are the same junk parts they’ve been using for 15years with minimal updates.
