Yea no doubt the multi valved shocks incredible but any shock with an external reservoir is doing the same thing when tuned correctly. If you don’t want adjustability options then go with the at4x set up with the peak leveling kit.True. But I REALLY liked the AT4X and ZR2 that I test drove.
What setting did you have it put at? Getting 6112s put on next week at the #3 for 1.2” of extra and hoping the 285/75/R18 I want to put on won’t have any rubbing issues.I just had the 6112’s / 5160’s with Cognito UCA‘s installed yesterday. so far I’m really impressed with the ride quality over stock.
I know this thread is old at this point but I’m having such a difficult time trying to decide what shocks to get. I get confused on all the terminology. I keep hearing people say Bilstein is too firm. Some say Fox are a better quality ride but others say they are horrible.I the ride quality is perfect. I never off road, on the city streets it's like a sports car.
Because Billstein's absorb the road so easily you do not feel bumps or jitters like the stock ranchos.
A good way to describe it is like a rollercoaster going over a rise and drop.
You expect to fly and bounce. But the rails keep you stuck to the tracks. It is a great setup.
The AT4X shock setup? Why? Every build they are getting removed.
Had I bought an AT4X I would not have changed a thing. But the stock AT4 ride was terrible to me, skittish, bounced, unplanned lane changes.
The Bilstein UCA's and shocks and you will never second guess it.
Also, the addition of the Hellwig sway bar ($$) allows you to carve turns.
Good luck.
I just put Bilstein 6112/5100 on my 23 1500 AT4. Driving it around after two weeks I can tell you this, the ride quality has greatly improved. No more body roll, nose dive when braking too fast and the bed doesn’t jump around at all anymore. It feels planted and responsive. I don’t think they are stiff, they just aren’t as mushy as the Ranchos.I know this thread is old at this point but I’m having such a difficult time trying to decide what shocks to get. I’ve also heard that Bilstein is not as comfortable as the stock ranchos but then you say they absorb bumps way better which seems to be my main issue. The bumpiness of the ride. In my head that seems to be a comfort thing so I’m not sure how a shock that is not as comfortable still absorbs bumps better.
I’m just confused on what will actually help me. It’s not cheap to buy these only to find out it’s not what you need. Can you explain a bit what you mean by the bilstein not being as comfortable but also absorbing bumps better? What is less comfortable?
Yeah, I think that's my problem. I don't really know what I want/need. This is my first truck so all I can compare it to is my previous cars/SUVs and the back seat ride in particular doesn't seem great for the kids. I experience it in the front too but not as much. When they're talking in the back seat their voices are in vibrato half the time because it's so bumpy. Even when on relatively smooth roads. Not sure if I need more mushy/comfort to resolve that or if a firmer suspension would help level off the smaller bumps in the road. The terminology and what each type of shock actually helps is where I get confused.I just put Bilstein 6112/5100 on my 23 1500 AT4. It’s all gonna come down to what you actually want out of your truck suspension wise. For the price point, you can’t beat the Bilsteins. Upgrade to the suspension all around and new UCAs (BDS) cost me $3400 at 4 Wheel Parts, which includes a 3 yr warranty on the shocks.
I would say that would work. If you’re looking to save cash, get the ride height adjustable 5100s and leave out the readylift kit. Something about spacers rubs me the wrong way but if you’re not doing any serious off-roading then I’m sure you’ll be fine. I don’t find the 6112s stiff and liked I got a beefer coil over than the stock set up.Alright guys, I’ve read and searched this forum till my eyes bled. This is what I think I have settled on, your thoughts wanted/welcomed.
Truck - 2024 AT4 bone stock
Desire - best on-road/hwy ride possible, with a leveled truck.
Front -
Bilstein 5100 series with stock springs
(or do I go 6112 for appt $800 more, does it make THAT much of a difference?)
ReadyLift 1.75” leveling kit with UCAs.
Rear -
Bilstein 5100 series
Yea. Rarely off road, that’s what the Polaris is for lol. I saw the ride height adjustable ones but was nervous that would mess up the UCA nightmare I’ve read so much about on these forums. I’m just looking to level though. I am not auto-mechanic savvy, just don’t want to waste money.I would say that would work.
