So basically, I have a 25 AT4 6.6 gas, owned for a year as a few weeks ago, with no issues . I had an update come up on screen about a month ago and I downloaded it. A few weeks after, I noticed Bluetooth not working and I could not get it sync with my phone (it had been working right up to this point). Took it to dealer, they reflashed the radio and got it working. Picked truck up from dealer , drove a few miles away, check engine light came on and truck started running roughly and I limped it back to dealership. Fault code for crankshaft position sensor. Left truck overnight. Got call next day from dealership, they said one of files on update was messed up and caused it to show the crankshaft sensor code, tech drove truck it’s all good to go. I got in truck, drove it less than a mile, engine light on / running like crap, limped it back to dealership, same fault code. So next day I get call from service advisor, they called GM engineers, told them issue, GM said well did you do this and that, etc. Tech responded I did everything you guys advise us to check and tests to perform. In the end GM admitted that their update corrupted a module / some computer in my truck. GM is overnighting a new module / computer for dealership to install in my truck. So my truck will spend another day at dealership hopefully getting this all sorted out and running correctly. I’m not faulting dealership at all they have been very helpful and got me a loaner vehicle. Glad GM admitted fault , but come on you are causing your own issues with this update crap.

The one update I messed up while waiting in a parking lot resulted in GM having to replace both batteries.

Now I run updates, in my garage. I connect up the wheeled battery charger, then commence the update; seems to work every time; definitely needs patience but I find it works.

Two primary causes of a failed updates are
1. a weak wifi signal
2. a low battery condition that can occur in the middle of the update since the engine is off.

Both above conditions can be prevented by
1. performing and update in an area having a strong wifi signal (usually from your home wifi router),
and
2. a solid 12+volt battery/batteries voltage which can be maintained via an appropriate battery charger.

Welcome.

I have heard more complaints from the updates than the updates improving the user experience, or whatever gm calls it.

Yep...had both my batteries replaced twice after doing updates. Both times were in my garage on home wifi. Did not have charger hooked to batteries as @pinebaron suggests.

Solid wifi and a means to maintain battery voltage is the key. Frankly its no different for my Mercedes.

I had the dealer "brick" my communication module doing the entertainment update...... and then wanted to charge me for a new one. Well that didn't happen!

Another time the dealer called me to see if I had an aftermarket tune because the ECM wouldn't take the update. I had a Range module plugged in the ECM. they removed it and it updated. I didn't take it in for an ECM update but they said it was available and to be done with the 6.2 recall.......... The recall has nothing to do with an ECM update.

But I've been hearing if you don't do the updates in so many days after their release / you're notified that GM is going to deny warranty repairs on whatever the update covered. I'd rather take my chances with something that works and leave it alone.

I picked up my truck today and drove it home. Life is good again. Instead of writing repair work performed, I attached work order.

I’m the same way with updates. I do them parked in my driveway with a good signal from my home WiFi.

🤣 No, thank you ! No complimentary wash for me. I can picture a wash brush sitting in a mop bucket, with a few inches of dirt/sand on the bottom being used nonstop for the complimentary car wash.
I’m a bit nuts about my washing process as well. I use good products and applicators and a 2 bucket system. I have specific brushes for specific things.

I’m usually pretty wiped out after washing the exterior, so to finish, I will typically pick a section of the truck and do a clay and Griot’s spray wax. Or I’ll do the leather seats with a proper cleaner and brush and conditioner. Or I’ll clay the windshield and then give it some type of ceramic or hydrophobic seal. Or refurb some of the plastics with Cerakote wipes.

My point is, I wouldn’t want them washing my truck either.

I would have probably had them vacuum the interior or clean the headliner or some other mundane stuff. But I keep my interior super clean anyway. I keep a dusting wand in my truck in the pocket by the driver side knee. I run that over the interior a couple times a week.

Normally I would agree with you (and I get your humor lol), but gone are the days that dealerships are going to actually pay someone to hand wash cars. Any dealer I've been to that offers that service has an automatic car wash. Which may or may not be better depending on how you look at it.
