Been using CarPlay since I bought truck in late July. Has worked pretty well. Started having some issues where sometimes when I got in truck, CarPlay would not work. Usually could turn off/on Bluetooth and/or WiFi and it would work.

Today, worked fine driving to the office. Couldn’t get it to work when leaving. Of course, I need it the most today to get somewhere I have never been. I tried disconnnecting, forgetting, restarting, and on and on, no joy. GMC screen would give warning and I would select Enable CarPlay, but then get message that no CarPlay device is recognized.

I don’t know if an iOS 18 issue or a GMc issue. I’ve been using iOS for a week and hair has been working, so not an immediate issue after the update.

Ugh. So frustrating. And I don’t want to pay for an Onstar plan to use the built in Google function.

Anyone else having same issue?

It’s not an IOS issue, it’s a GM issue. There are times when carplay fails to connect for no reason at all. Unless WiFi connects between phone and truck, CarPlay does not start. At those times I connect the phone via usb, I have a sub cable always ready and connected.

To use Google navigation without a paid subscription use your iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot for your truck. You will now have full functionality. You could also use your home WiFi to get data and download maps for your navigation. This way you wouldn’t need data at all to use navigation, but your google services will still not work.

I have noticed that my Apple Music is working differently since the update.
Had to actually back out of an album to get to another set of music. Also my playlists didn’t survive the update.

I think this update has jacked with my phone more than any other update I have done.

I think it has been a GM issue, namely when disconnecting and reconnecting gets the phone to work. I went ahead and forgot the device to do a fresh connection, and when the phone connects, "CarPlay" isn't even an option on the phone. On the truck, the screen pops up asking me to enable/disable CarPlay. I 'enable' but the phone won't recognize CarPlay, and so it isn't even an option. I can't tell if it is an iOS or GM issue now. There are so many screens on the phone that I have had to go and accept terms, I wonder if I'm missing one.

This worked. Thank you. I was able to use the maps this morning, and just blue toothed my PodCast.

That is why cassettes were a superior technology. :)
I still have my roof mounted fancy Panasonic cassette and radio sound system packed somewhere since the 90's when I owned a different truck and was much younger too. See pic below.
