I followed the “Do this first steps” and CarPlay has been working for a week now. It is slow to connect “about a minute” but it connects every time without input from me.
CarPlay Link
Good info. Thanks.
CarPlay almost never works when I really need it, but then works later in the day, when I don't need it. ugh.

Update:
When using remote start my iPhone automatically connects via Bluetooth, but not CarPlay.
I have to disconnect the device on the infotainment screen and CarPlay will connect automatically. If I shut the truck off and open the driver’s door, then close the door and start the truck CarPlay connects without input from me.

Are there other phones connected? The newer systems allow one phone to connect via carplay which is WiFi and another phone to "connect as secondary" via bluetooth. This will sometimes cause confusion. I try my damndest to keep the secondary connection disabled but it turns itself back on. During some sequence of events, it's possible your phone is connecting as secondary which would prevent it from connecting to carplay.

Not sure about the open and close door and turn off vehicle part.. but I’ve been doing that for a month. Hold down mute+talk on steering wheel while in park (idle) for 10 seconds, the whole infotainment system reboots on its own and everything is fine…

Till it’s not fine, maybe a day a few days but. I more than a week and I need to do it again.
Sometimes I’ve done it a couple of times a day

The infotainment system lacks cpu power and not enough memory and causes eventual slow loading of apps including built in apps like CarPlay and needs a reboot like the old computers needed twenty years ago every so often

Yes there is a second phone connected however in the connections-phones you’ll see options and select this phone first!

If you do not follow the instructions your system will not reboot! Per GM it will only power down then power on. I also didn’t follow the instructions at first and continued to have issues. Apparently opening & closing the door waiting for everything to go dark kills power to the unit after the boot procedure and it is needed to get the software to reload on the unit.

I still have no issues with the exception of the remote start topic above. However I can deal with going into the infotainment settings and DISCONNECT not FORGET to get it to connect with CarPlay.

The only fix that worked for me was to get the phone updated to the latest iOS 17 and magically it would connect without failure. But yes had to reset and remove old devices in bluetooth and start fresh.
