Another new 2500 owner….a few quality issues

Hey everyone, glad to be part of the forum.

Picked up a 2026 2500 AT4 in white about a week ago. Pretty much loaded with options.
For the most part, I’m happy but I’ve already experienced 2 radio resets, a crooked steering wheel/alignment issue and today after my first wash/wax I’ve noticed what I consider unacceptable paint quality. The hood has a fair amount of nibs in it, and several other small blemishes and orange peel areas.
Now, don’t get me wrong…it’s a truck, and unless you are right up on the hood at the right angle you don’t see anything. Being white also helps. It’s not a collector car or anything but damn it’s still 92k!

I moved away from GMC in 2009 after several of my fleet trucks developed issues. Moved over to Dodge and quite honestly never had an issue. My own personal truck in my company was a TRX. Outside of the Ram typical infotainment glitches it was a solid truck.

Anyhow, I recently got back into SXS riding and racing and towing my trailer with 2 Can Am Mavericks wasn’t cutting it.

Looked at Dodge, and really loved the Cummins diesel. Didn’t like the ride quality though. So I thought let’s give GMC a try.

From what I’ve read this seems to be quite an issue with the GMC truck line. Paint quality and infotainment issues.

Kind of a bummer.

Welcome back and congrats on the new truck. Sorry to hear you're having issues. Maybe pull negative battery for a few mins. That usually clears out the ghosts. I personally haven't had any issues with mine on my 24 and it's a work truck, so the paint wasn't really focused on after I chose color.

Hopefully you get passed these two upsets and it'll be a beast for you pulling your SXSs!

Maybe dealer visit would help, but don't hold your breath.

Well, just an update to my thread. Things are not real good right now…found out today that the reason there’s so much trash In the paint is because the hood was repainted somewhere in transit. I’m so pissed right now I can’t even see straight. Dealer claims no knowledge of damage and from what I can tell with a paint meter there was about 2 coats of clear added to the hood. Truck is miking out around 4.6-5.8 mils on sides and roof. Hood is 7-8 mils.

Of course, the dealer solution is to paint on a new truck which most truck buyers/owners couldn’t care less about. I’m unfortunately not one of those people.

No worries. I am one of those people too, especially after finding something out that should have been disclosed prior to pick up. At least I'd want to know. I'm sure they can make it right and try painting again. Tell them to paint a new hood, then when it's done, swap it on. Then you're not leaving your truck for days.

Doesn’t really matter to you, there is an obligation to disclose and dealer didn’t do that ( there is a special form your suppose to sign if anything isn’t “new” ).

Call the factory line, open a case and then calmly meet with the general manager, you want the vehicle repurchased (or replaced). Stay patient but firm.

Right now, they have decided step 1 is to remove the hood and repaint to “factory specs” and then I am to look it over and either accept it or move on to step 2. But, they didn’t tell me what step 2 actually is.
I do not see any waves or dents in the hood, and the meter didn’t show any crazy readings such as 10-15 mils difference which would indicate a slather of Bondo somewhere.
Unless I just get a complete dumbass for a refinisher, I would think the hood can be re-cleared with a small amount of the factory type peel to mimic the original appearance. That is what I’m shooting for.

I’m in SC, so my understanding of the law here is that GM nor the transit company has to disclose the damage to the dealership unless the damage repaired exceeds 3% of the MSRP. Damage also cannot be used to terminate the vehicle sale. The only thing I had was the 3 day return period which unfortunately I have exceeded.

I’m still bummed but it is what it is I guess.

Quite honestly, the prep guys at the dealership should have raised the red flag when they did the PDI on the truck. Stevie Wonder could have seen the dirt and the 2 runs in the hood when they did the paint protection package that thankfully I never pay for.

Now I’m mad at myself for not carefully going over the truck thoroughly before taking it home. Unfortunately I’m of the generation that believes everyone should do their job properly, and dumb me forgets what it’s REALLY like out there today.

GMC trucks are not nano paint like on my Benz but its as good as can be expected.

I bought my 25 Yukon Denali diesel in June and took it home…then found dirt in the paint on the right rear quarter panel ….took it back to the dealer the next day…they offered to paint it or take the vehicle back and order another…I chose to order a new one….not painting/blending pearl white on a 100k vehicle…nope…dealership was awesome about it….ended up ordering an ultimate Yukon after that….we love it….and the paint on this Yukon was perfect.

Im wondering how the details of your swap worked out? I have a buddy who paid for a new Genesis then within 5 minutes the service tech shorted out the entire car with a screwdriver. The dealer says they will get him a new car but he's worried about sales tax that he already paid. Doesn't seem like thats refundable.

It’s what the dealership called “unwinding” the deal…..the sales tax is a non-issue….its a dollar for dollar refund or transfer over to the new vehicle….you don’t lose it.

Just a follow up….after 3 attempts to paint the hood, the GM district rep told the dealer to swap the hood off a new 2500 on to my truck and the original repainted hood on the donor truck. They even ordered new VIN stickers for the hoods.

At the end of the day, the paint quality was probably a 6/10. Most run of the mill truck buyers will most likely never see the hood was repainted but I did.

I can say I’m thrilled with the swap, but I’m not thrilled it took as long as it did and the process and hoops I had to jump thru. But, it’s done. And now some other poor bastard will get MY damaged/painted hood on their 2026 2500 which just seems wrong.
