Maybe not as much as owners that have valve body failures, but Allison is severing ties with gm, allowing gm to use their name...
To my understanding, and I may have a few details askew, but, GM was the parent company by purchasing ALLISON waaaay back before most of us were born. BUT, Allison was always branded as ALLISON on GM rigs because that’s the way Allison worked and they were indeed Allison boxes. With that being said, GM absorbed 100% of the Allison brand a few years ago 2019/20 (I believe) and made a few GM mods to the transmission and of course still installs em in vehicles. BUT, the badging has been dropped because it ISNT an Allison trans anymore, it’s a GM.Maybe not as much as owners that have valve body failures, but Allison is severing ties with gm, allowing gm to use their name...
Well, I wasn’t too far off w my explanation. My service advisor is the one who supplied the info. I was actually surprised to hear him say he wouldn’t tow ANYTHING w the GM trans. Kinda sets the bar a tad low. I’ve already had mine in the shop for a TSB related issue that was fixed w a software update???? My question is, throughout the life of my rig, how many times will I NEED to bring it in for additional TSB updates and how many will actually cost the owner after the warrantee goes out. Meh!!!I read that the 10-speed for HD trucks were designed and built by GM, with Allison's stamp of approval/validation:
GM/Allison 10L1000 10 Speed Automatic Transmission Specs & Ratios
Allison 10 speed automatic transmission specs and gear ratios. The Allison 10L1000, manufactured by GM, was introduced for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD. It features 10 forward speeds, sophisticated powertrain integration, and a chain driven PTO system.www.dieselhub.com
All of these problems, one after another, with information being as abundant as it is, have had me reconsidering my purchase for a number of months now. I'm seriously contemplating on selling this summer. I shouldn't have to drop $100k on a truck and out of all things, have to keep that transmission on the back of my mind.
I don't know what I'm going to buy as a replacement honestly. NO ONE has anything reliable from factory new anymore. My next truck is absolutely going to be gas too. I'm over the emission OCD and checking my Regen % every time it starts.
I shouldn't have to fork out another 2-3k for a built right valve body for peace of mind. I also shouldn't have to fork out 5-7k for a weight loss program. Give me a good damn detuned truck I just want it to be reliable don't care about performance
my one and only trip to the dealership for a trans related squawk I had turned out to only be a TSB. I wasn’t th aware of. Regardless, the dealership did whatever it is they needed to do and now my truck shifts really nice. I’m not concerned about it any more.
My one and only dealership experience I kept putting off for a nagging trans issue only turned out to be a TSB flash of the TCM that completely solved my issue. The trans works quite nicely now. Pretty simple, but had me worried.
