AEV clearance kit with 35s

I wanted to post this for other people that might be on the fence about bigger tires on the AEV edition or the AEV kit. My truck is a 2024 Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV edition, 35 clearance kit, Nitto Ridge Grapplers 35/12.50/18 and 12mm spacers

I installed the AEV 35 clearance kit and I was able to fit 35/12.50/18 with no rubbing even when the suspension is articulating and looks like it should have came like this from the factory.

The AEV kit was relatively easy if you’re mechanically inclined. I struggled the most getting the plastic trims installed and aligned correctly. They squeeze every mm out of that back front fender as they can but the end result is awesome. The kit is designed so good that you would never tell unless you’re in the know. The body lift was super easy. I think it took me 45 minutes to install and that really was my biggest concern on getting the body and bed to align properly. I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff I did so please feel free to ask away.

After I finished the install I was really concerned with the space I had between the UCA and the stock tire so I ordered 12mm spacers just in case I needed them during the tire install. AEV does a great job of not telling you what width 35s you can fit. I wanted 12.50 and that was my end goal so I was prepared to run spacers. I now have approximately 10-12mm between the UCA and the tire but if you were to run a less aggressive tire you might get away with no spacers. I wasn’t willing to take a chance on the expensive tire im running. My spacers gave me 12-13 turns on the lug nut so I’m ok with that. If anyone has ever owned a tundra with after market wheels will appreciate 13 turns. lol

The end result is the perfect look I was going for. OEM plus as they say. Honestly I think the spacer gives the tire the perfect amount of poke so I’m keeping them on. They are also hub centric so they ride great.

Side note- I got rid of the rock sliders because you can’t get in the truck without sliding off and hitting your shin. Screw that so I bought some high clearance factor steps.

I will also get better pics when the sun comes out.

The Salta wheels are +12mm if Im correct. Toyo RTs have the same dimensions as the Nittos so you'll run into the same problems.
I did everything myself except the alignment. The body lift was super easy to do even though the instructions make it seem so daunting. I did it with the tires on the ground and just unbolted one side at a time. There is a reinforcement area under the drivers and passenger doors that you can use to jack up the body. I used an offroad jack and a piece of wood to slowly go up. After the suspension unloads I went up about 3/4" and slid the pucks in and bolts, dropped it and went to the other side then tightened everything up after all 8 were installed. The bed I did the same way except I used a 2' piece of a 4x4 to lift in the corners as I did them separately.
I thought about going Peak but I liked that this kit made everything look factory especially with the fender liners. I love the OEM+ look that I do on all my builds.

Thanks for sharing! The truck looks great! Your wheels are the factory 18 aev wheels right? They have bit more offset than the aftermarket ones. How is the ride? Are you going to switch the control arms? Did you get the venom DRL kit too? I’m waiting on mine, it should be here any day. Sorry for all the questions, but I’m sure someone else has them as well. Thanks! I love the ride, nothing changed as far as the quality. It rides exactly as stock and the UCAs have plenty of articulation and it aligned well within specs but keep in mind this truck will very rarely see any offroading and if it does it will be maintained roads. I did get the venom kit and was a super easy install that can be done with one hand. My previous truck was a 2nd gen Raptor so having the amber lights was a nice way to differentiate from the rest so I wanted it for this truck.

It may be worth clarifying the stock GMC/AEV offset and hub bores are different than the version you can buy direct from AEV. Also, they have different markings.

This is from the HD subforum but GMC/AEV offset is +32mm instead of +18mm if you buy direct.

Also stock GMC hubs are 78.1mm opposed to the larger 124.1mm hub bores of the direct buy AEV wheels. This isn’t uncommon as aftermarket wheel manufacturers tend to make larger bores to fit an assortment of vehicles. Factory wheels are hubcentric so the hub bores aren’t oversized. The AEV wheels would be lugcentric instead unless you ran on a vehicle with 124.1 hubs. Since GMC hubs are considerably smaller you’d want to run some hubcentric rings if using the AEV direct buy wheels.

Also the guys in this HD thread pointed out they had problems with using the AEV direct buy wheel as a spare because the hub bores were too large and the wire/plate that holds the spare in place wasn’t big enough.

Lastly not sure the weight of the GMC/AEV wheels but the 44# on the direct buy AEV’s are hogs. A quality forged wheel like Method could get that weight down to 25-30# each. This would have an impactful effect, especially if upsizing to 35’s as bigger tires weigh more. Depending what tires are selected you may be able to offset the weight gain of larger tires in whole (or at least partially) with lighter wheels.

Effectively larger tires & more weight create a rotational mass effect that mimics putting in higher gears (numerically lower). So if you have 3.23’s with 33” tires it may have the effect of 3.00’s with 35”. I’m just using 3.00 as an example but the point remains the truck will be more sluggish on takeoff. The diameter effect will always be in play if you upgraded to 35’s but lighter weight reduces the effects.

The entire install took 45 from AEV kit like the spacers for the body to frame? I bought it and I can’t find a place that will install it.

Yes. It was really easy and its crazy that no one will do it for you. I’m in Houston so if you’re close I could help you out.
 

I went with the Toyo RT Pros in 285/75r18 on the stock Salta wheels. It’s 34.8 inches tall and 11.3 inches wide. Completely stock AT4X 1500 and no rubbing even at full lock and no problems with UCA.
