Ordered an extra pair of tailgate lights to convert to footwell lights. Kit came with a wiring harness which made it like oem.

Used a bottle torch to heat the Stanley knife to "mill" the kick panels on the center console.

Wiretapping into the BCM, making the footwell lights work with cab lights. They dim down like the rest. Did not use a relay, as each light draws .7 watts.

Wiring harness was just the correct length.

Which truck is this? You have some loaded trucks there so I would have thought these would come from factory. You also said OEM so I'm a little confused.

Yes, it was confusing. No T1 trucks come with footwell lights.

I was trying to imply "oem" as the parts are repurposed gm oem parts from the tailgate steps. So I could get replacement parts if a light went out.

Seems when I go back to amazon a year or more later, some items are not available.

I apologize for not being clear and make it sound like a model of a T1 has footwell lights.

I didnt mean to call you out, just asking for clarification.

I have never heard of the T1 designation before but Google tells me what it is.

I have the 24’ AT4X and no footwell lights (need to look and see if just not working?) and the tailgate kicker audio has just plastic covers where you show your lights. Reading this but not at my truck - so gonna check this out. Thought it odd that a loaded vehicle would be missing something as simple as footwell lights.

My kicker audio doesn’t come on - so need to make appointment with dealer, that and the infotainment is whacked.

And a glove box light would've nice too!

Hey gemarsh, I know this is an old post but like how you did this. Can you share info on the BCM and which circuit you tapped?

BCM X1 pin 23

BUT!!

This is for the 19-22 ld non-refresh and 20-23 hd non-refresh.

I have no idea on the refresh T1's. I've only glanced at the refreshed BCM at the dealer. The BCM has 2 rows of X connectors. Just another global b area I'm not familiar with.

Thanks for the response and clarification.

I have the electrical schematic for my 2024 but haven’t been able to identify the door switch circuit yet. Guess I have more reading to do.

Ok got it done. Ordered the GM molex connecter wire off eBay that plugs into BCM X1 plug pin #1 (very back black plug) which gives the dome light control 12v positive. Makes a big difference and works the same as the dome lights with door and switch. It also dims in and out as the dome lights.

-Wire needed for pin 1. GM OEM wire 19370262. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325878714390
-Lights I used. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XRR1J4G?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Note: once the X1 plug is removed, use a small flat had screw driver to pull the whit side clip out about a 1/16 of and inch this will allow you to place the molex connector into the X1 plug. The push it back in after it installed. Also recommend removing the negative battery cable before starting this project.

Fantastic! Great news it worked. I ordered the same molex wire just waiting for it to arrive. I found it at Walmart of all places. I got the tailgate step lights copying Gemarsh’s mod. Going to connect them this weekend using the x1 hole 1 as well. Any tips on removing the x1 module? Special tricks needed to release it?

For the X1 module connector I used a 90 degree pick tool pic attached to for reference. You can easily unlock tap 1 and pull the connector out by carefully pushing in and pull tap 2 to remove. I also remove the door seal panel to that gives you more room and access to the negative ground locations.

Did you take pictures of the connector?
I found these pictures from another site.

Basically, all you have to do is just plug in the new wire into the blank? No need to actually tap into an existing wire?

Edit, nevermind, i see images and schematics posted here: https://www.at4forum.com/threads/interior-lighting-wire-to-tap.3345/post-32770

It's the very back plug on the BCM. Mine was black in color. Also you will need to pull this white clip out a bit to insert the pin.
