So I was at the dealership. My son purchased a new to him 2016 2500 HD 6.0. They had a 2024 black AT4 sitting on the lot and I was looking at it. BTW my wife was letting me know I did not need it. While paperwork was being processed I was asking questions about the AT4. I finally asked if it was a 6.2 and my wife proudly chimed in and said, yes it was, and one of the first things she saw on the badging on the truck. Then the salesman said I should purchase it as there will be NO more 6.2 made because there is a discontinue order. He said it was a bad deal as the Dealer up north has a huge order for 6.2 as that is about all he sells here in Montana. I immediately asked if it was a discontinuation or possibly a temporary pause. He then started talking about the 6.2 failures and he has sold 3 and one Tahoe lost its engine twice. He then stated it was possible he misunderstood and it could have been a temporary pause on he 6.2 and I agreed. Our conversation turned to the 6.2 being a very popular option and they, GM, surely wouldn't just discontinue it unless this was a "green agenda" option the company was going with. We agreed maybe this would be an option 2 years ago but now with the new political environment its more probable GM may finally be looking at the 6.2 as a huge mechanical disaster for them. If this is true GM is probably getting ready for a recall because of a class action lawsuit. He told me he was going to try and find the letter and see if he could find out more information. I thought this was a really good piece of knowledge. I'm and not sure if communication was lost in translation between dealers but it does seem possible. If I hear anything more I will certainly let you all know what I find out.

If this is common knowledge I apologize for the late double posting.
Thanks

I have heard anything other than the NHTSA investigation.

Until they fix the issue I’d really consider stepping up to the 2500 with the 6.6L gas motor…absolutely no cylinder deactivation devices on this motor (which the 6.2 & 5.3 motors have).
That's my plan in 3 more years

I would like to add Im not trying to spread misinformation. It was a causal conversation. Im not sure if he was even supposed to talk about it. He is a really good guy and it caught me by surprise. I figured everyone might want to know. Anyway I have to go back because I have some paperwork for them and Im going to talk to him more about it if he is willing to. Its -10 here and Im not going anywhere for a few days but I will see If I can get more information or even evidence by end of week. To be continued…..

I noticed Rivard gmc here in florida use to always have a bunch of AT4s with the 6.2L in their inventory and awesome prices, now there are barely any, only the 3.0 diesel. Maybe the dealer you spoke to could know something. I've been considering trading up from my 2020, don't need a 2500 so if not another AT4 6.2L not sure what I'm gonna do.

But that also means stepping into a 2500.....I test drove a '24 2500 AT4 before I bought my 1500 AT4X and although I really wanted a larger truck for towing my boat, etc. I just didn't really care for how it drove. Too long, too big, sluggish compared to the '21 AT4 6.2L I was driving at the time....it just didn't impress me the way I'd hoped for a nearly $90k truck.

First I have heard of it but worthy of research for sure. If you hear anything please keep us posted

Y’all stay warm

We got the 24 6.2 L v8. At4. We pull a camper and light boat. Didn’t think we needed anything bigger but I did like the 2500 at4 x model but was out of our price range since we paid cash for it with our savings. To get the power I like while pulling I drive it in sport mode.

My AT4X 6.2L pulls my boat (2022 Cobalt CS22) okay but it's a bit sluggish and causes the rear end to sag a bit, which could be fixed with either the Road Active suspension system or air ride. I was more interested in a 2500 Duramaxfor taking the boat on road trips since that would make longer trips a lot easier than towing with my 1500. As it stands right now, I only tow the boat between dry storage and the lake, both of which are roughly 10 minutes from my house. I will say that when towing with my 1500 fuel mileage takes a HUGE hit....another upside for a 2500 Duramax.
