New here and hoping to get some feedback on how to best maintain the 3.0L Duramax LZ0 engine. I understand it is new for all 2023 models but I'm sure there are some common techniques for all Duramax engines. According to GMC, the LZ0 engine is 25% different from the LM2, with the most noticeable change being a piston swap, aluminum in the LM2 to Iron in the LZ0. With the addition of new injectors and a change in suppliers to mitigate the no crank/long crank issues, this is all I could find that differentiate the two engines.

Here are some things I'd like to get thoughts on.

1) The oil pump belt remains in the same poor location at the rear of the engine (to get to the belt, the tranny must be dropped). In LM2 models, first inspection of the belt is recommended at 100,000 miles. For LZ0 models, GMC is now saying first inspection of this belt is recommended at 200,000 miles. I have found no evidence that any modifications were done to this belt to warrant the change. Is anyone able to provide feedback on this? Was the belt modified in any way to strengthen it?

2) The fuel pumps seem to be a major problem for the Duramax. To my knowledge, nothing has been done to the fuel pump for the LZ0. Has anyone noticed a milage that this pump begins to fail at? Are there any aftermarket fuel pump replacements anyone can recommend?

Any feedback is appreciated!!!

I have an LM2 refresh with the rear oil pump belt, I am not aware of any changes for the LZ0 but as far as I am concerned the belt will out live me and is a much safer design than all the vehicles that are running around with camshaft belts that can create some carnage when they break. Original belt inspection was 150,000 miles?
I haven't seen any fuel pump problems listed for the LM2/LZO. It has a lift pump from factory install so once again I don't anticipate any problems.

Enjoy your new truck and let us know how the LZO compares to the LM2 performance wise and fuel economy. ;)

Thanks Andystoy AT4!
I'll keep digging into what I have been hearing and get back if I hear of any significant issues.

my previous post is still awaiting admin approval - if you search that "you" place for Tube videos and look up on the subject titles you may find one where there is interview with the chief engineer from GM on the engine and he details the changes ,,
