Greetings. Is anyone using diesel fuel additives for proactive maintenance reasons? Read a lot about them and there are people on both sides about them. Are they harmful at all? Which brand is best? I don’t really trust the gas station I get my fuel from and have noticed my engine has been a bit louder lately. Also noticed the MPG slipping a bit. I did recently throw 285s on it and expected a dip but not a 5 mpg dip. Anyways, just curious what you all think. Thanks.

I am sure you will get loads of opinions, I add my own blended additive on every fill, problems as of yet

I’ve been adding Hot Shot’s Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT). I can’t prove that it helps, but it does seem to run a little smoother with it.

Just got back from picking up some hot shots thought I’d give it a try. Threw 2oz in a full tank so we will see…

Another vote for Hot Shots; engine is definitely quieter after treatment. Really notice the difference on cold starts.

None noticeable but the truck consistently pulls 26-27 mpg in mixed driving. No complaints whatsoever.

I see people posting all over the place the same mileage 22-27 and even higher. Mine is at 19-21 and I drive like a grandpa. I don’t get it.

I may not be the best person to comment since I am running 35's that kill my MPG a bit... but I'll try. I average 18 city and 22 highway (75-80mph) with 35's, but if I am on slower highways going 30-65mph I get a bump up to 26+mpg. I find this truck loves to be in the 30-65mph range for fuel economy. Out here if you are going 65mph on the freeway you are the slowest one on the road and everyone will hate you, so 22mpg is good enough for me.

Update: So far the Hot Shots has quieted my engine down and it is much smoother when driving. Seems like it is running better but the MPGs have gone down…..haven‘t changed my driving habits-still driving like a grandpa.

What tires did you put on? How many miles on the truck? What air pressure are you running?

Mileage should get better as the motor breaks in. What’s the topography of your driving area?

Where I live it’s not hilly but it’s not completely flat either. I would say that its average. That is good to hear that it may improve with age though.

When swapping tires I tried to find the lightest option available with fuel mileage in mind. I see some people posting they get 35 to even 50 mpgs with these trucks and it makes me wonder wtf I am doing wrong lol.
