Anyone had any issue with these opening while driving ??Mine opened and I don't use camaras while backing in due to my habits of being a truck driver and I hit a tree causing damage, my 2024 Ultimate did same thing but it's disabled by the dealer still, this one I just got 2 months ago. Thanks

That really sucks!

My 2024 HD AT4 that I picked up in April has not had that issue. There was a stop sale for this issue earlier this year. I have checked my TSB's and nothing so I think the fix was implemented in the newer builds. When was yours built?

I can't say for sure that it happened to mine, BUT one time when I got to my destination the tailgate was down...and it wasn't supposed to be. BUT the wife was figiting around the cupholders and front center compartment during that drive, so I can't rule out that she "accidentally" hit the button...of course she denies ever touching it. This happened about 4 months ago and hasn't happened again. My build date is 11/23.

Haven't had this issue yet, apparently caused by water getting into the tailgate via two holes in the handle cavity. Even before a TSB was announced I applied a bush fix which worked for me and it is not sealing the holes shut. Having said that I need to somehow create/put a tailgate open indicator on the dash; it is on my list of things to do.

The global b trucks don't have a "Tailgate Open" on the dic, that can be dismissed?

For what it's worth, I have a refreshed 22 AT4 and had the same problem several times. Within the first 6 months of picking up the truck, I would notice it was open by noticing a "bump" in the back if I hit a rough spot in the road. Well, this was the tailgate bouncing since it was down! I got to where I started checking the tailgate camera now and then. Come to find out, the tailgate button is next to the one that shuts off the auto shut off, which I always select after starting up. I hate that feature but know the white house pushing for better mileage, manufacturers are having to install. Anyway, I was bumping the tailgate button! Since then, I am Very Careful to not touch the tailgate button. I swear just looking at it will drop the gate! LOL All good now though.

This happened to me twice each time I went over a speed bump but it hasn’t happened in about 8 months. 2024 HD AT4, 12 months old.

Happened to me while towing a trailer. I have a 2024 AT4x HD. Got my truck last August. On a road trip in June the tailgate fell open denting the tailgate while driving.

My VIN is not yet included in the recall.

I fought with dealer and GMC claims from June to August to get it fixed. In the end I paid for the damage repair waiting on GMC outsourced claim dept (ESIS) to do their “investigation”.

In the end GMC wrote me a check for the full amount of the damage repairs. However that did not include replacement of the faulty module that releases the tailgate. I am still fighting to get the dealer to change it out.

So for now the damage is fixed but the tailgate could fall open again at any time.

So stupid they accept fault and paid for the damage but won’t fix the problem because I am not technically in the recall range currently out.

I would pull the fuse or disconnect the solenoid that opens it. I don't know why anyone needs this feature anyway.
Never mind my comment now after further reading see that the release at the tailgate is also electric also. This will suck if its loaded and won't release and you can't access it because of the load. Dumb Technology IMO.

If you pull the fuse the tailgate will not go down. I will do that whenever towing a trailer that will interfere with a dropped tailgate. A bit of inconvenience is worth not having to get the tailgate fixed. I started figuring out a switch for the fuse but its a strange type of fuse and the parts were expensive.

Tailgate open Buzzer/Indicator 'proof of concept' successfully completed on the bench. I need to find time to install it back there. Before I commence that install, I need to install Tailgate Seal; its so annoying that such expensive trucks don't come with tailgate seals. For some reason I'm not looking forward to installing the seal alhtough I'll try not to mess it up
