I love my 2022 3500 it’s been a great truck towing is not an issue and man the truck wants to go! We purchased it in May without all the chips and I was willing to accept that the chip shortage will be solved eventually. I did get some chips in December for heated seats, but still others missing. Aside from that inconvenience it’s been a great truck.

TLDR Version:
Truck just died was‘t sure what to do so I towed it to a dealer. Dealer service dept is backed up takes 5 days to find out fuel pump is dead. 7-10 days to get the part. Truck has been at the dealer for 15 days. Followed back up today and was told part isn’t available and they will either need to manufacture a new fuel pump for me or pull one from something on the assembly line. No ETA on possible replacements.

Detailed Version:
About three weeks ago so around Jan 31 I was driving my daughter to school and the truck just died. Sitting at a light engine just stops. Lights flashing like a Christmas tree and I’ll just say I was in shock. Nothing I did was helping. The lights were still on and after letting it sit for 30-45 seconds it started back up and I was like … Glitch! Truck dies again about 20 seconds later and I see the engine light is on and a message stating engine reduced power. I’m like what the hell. I’m stuck in the middle of the intersection and not a lot of options. Cars driving around me … nothing. I wait another minute or two and try to start and it starts … so I do what I can to coast through the intersection and park on the side of the street best I can as the street is pretty narrow. Engine dies shortly after getting through the intersection. I look in the manual and am not finding much and so I hit the web and all I can find is that reduced power has got as many possibilities as engine light. So I have AAA tow it to the nearest GMC dealer. I call the dealer can’t get through. We call the sales department after a full day of waiting to at least hear if they have my truck. Finally I get a text from the dealer. ‘Hey we’re backed up at least a week and can’t get to your car for about 7 days”. This is Monday. So I look around and every dealer is having a similar issue With their service department. Anyway I manage to find another dealer with an open appointment on Saturday so I grab that appointment and decide I might as well leave it at the first place because if it’s gonna be 6 days either way can’t hurt to try and get work where I can. Anyway first dealer calls my Friday and tells me HD Fuel pump died and I need a replacement. It’s all under warranty so I’m not too worried until the guy says it will be 7 - 10 days to get the part. Well that sucks but hey I really like the truck and we just wait. Today is day 12. I call the dealer for the first time in 12 days and ask for status. Service guy says The fuel pump has not come in. I’m like is there any ETA on when it might arrive? I’m thinking maybe a few more days … he responds with this message:

“My parts team said they checked on this this morning with Gm stating no available ETA at this time. Usually when I see this, they have to build a part or try to pull something from the assembly line”!!!!

I have heard from friends GMC, Ford, Chevy it’s hard now to get your truck worked on. The service departments are understaffed and parts are taking forever to find etc.

So now I’m rethinking my situation. I didn’t buy a nice truck to have it sit in the shop for weeks on end. I’m not sure if anyone has played this game, but woof this is a bit of a sucker punch. I haven’t given up all hope yet, but if we don’t get the part soon and it continues to sit and we don’t get a call from someone at GMC we may need to move on.

I have to admit I was surprised to hear the fuel pump died. Anyone know of anyone else that has reported this issue? Something to note the truck has about 15K miles on it so not sure if that has something to do with it.

Rock auto shows the gm oem intank pump available. Or are you talking about the high pressure pump?

Rock shows the injector pump is also available, gm genuine.

By the way, you have good taste in trucks. 🤩 if your avatar is your truck. Here is mine.

Thanks. This is pretty much a mirror image of mine, but not mine. Mine also has the step bars and the AT4 package which is probably obvious. 😃.

Thanks for the reply on the fuel pump. The dealer has the truck and I’ve not heard them doing anything but getting parts directly from the manufacturer while the vehicle is still under warranty. I will definitely ask them though now that I saw your message.

I just got word that the part that I have been waiting for which was not in fact a fuel pump, but was instead a module kit. It appears as though it is the electrical components that attach to the fuel pump. The dealer now has the part, but won't have it fixed until late next week.
