Hey all,
Screwing around with my iDash. Put transmission gear as one of the fields. Found that the truck in "D" starts out in 2nd gear? Only way to get it in 1st is to go to L2 and use the - button. Anyone out there that can check their truck and see if it's the same? Not having issues, just find it strange! Maybe 1st gear is simply made to move a house of something, LOL!
Thanks!

Mine is a 2024 2500 and I wish it started out in second gear when I'm not pulling. But to answer your question mine always starts out in first gear.

I found this in another forum, post was from 2021. "The gassers do not have the 10 speed transmission, nor the torque the diesels have. Heck, the truck doesn’t even start out in first gear, unless in tow haul. You will not have any problems."

gm programmed the 10 speed to start from a dead stop in 2nd. When in tow/haul mode, the tranny starts on 1st.

Does the ECM have anything to do with that?
I don't watch mine every time but the dash literally shows first gear on most "launches" and there's an obvious lag until it shifts into second gear.

I should probably know the answer but I have no intention of learning all the electronics on these modern space shuttles...
I just had it into the dealer for the trailer breaking recall and though I was never notified they told me they replaced the ECM under recall. Maybe that changed the shifting? I suppose I will take it into the dealer for this software recall and see what happens.

I will say that it felt very different on the drive home but I have not driven it since because I've been fighting kidney stones since the morning I turned it into the dealer.

Thank you that actually makes better sense and they did not mention replacing that in my recall.
I doubt they reprogrammed anything without notifying me either so we'll see what happens once the kidney stones are finished...

Sorry I did not intend to hijack your thread

I’ve always been under the impression it’s because of the auto locking rear diff.
In icy conditions when you don’t want it to lock ya start out in 2Nd gear.
That could be an old nonsense fairytale.
Damfino I always bought into it.
Maybe someone knows for sure.
