Hello all, I found this forum while searching for issues with the GM 6.2 L engine 50K mileage. Yesterday I was on my way to go hunting and while driving my engine shut off. No warnings prior. I pulled over and it would not turn over. Each time I tried to start it the dash would go dark other than the engine light, then a few seconds later the dash would light up and act as if it started. I had to get it towed to a dealership who now says the engine appears to be locked up. Prior to this I had the vehicle in the shop for what I thought was noise lifters yet they stated I was not using "Top Tier Fuel" and that it was a pre-ignition issue with the fuel I use. So not sure if this had anything to do with it. If this is a seized engine what should the dealership provide a loaner. This is going to be costly I fear.

Good God, another one? And these are just the ones reported on the forums. Seems like gm is using plastic main bearings.

I don't have a gas burner. What is the drive train warranty on one? Is it 5yr/100k miles like the diesels?

Looks like you're covered, so long as you had oil in the pan...

This happened to me this weekend. 2022 Sierra Limited AT4 6.2L with 46k miles. I absolutely love this truck, but I have to say this does not make me feel good about the product. Towed to the dealership, found out the engine was locked up yesterday-still waiting to hear what the plan of action is.

Mine is a 2020 6.2L. 4.25 years, 50k miles. No problems... yet. But I am 100% trading this truck before the powertrain is up (actually, probably in the next few months). I bought it cash end of 2019 and wanted to keep it very long term, but no way. That said, most problems I have read about are 22-24. The dealer I work with said the 24s are having an alarming number of problems, one owner already having his engine replaced for the second time (and a neighbor with a 22 has had his replaced 2 times!). This is absolutely absurd, even if it is an internet forum where only problems are reported.

I'm going back to a 2500 gasser, AT4X. And it builds out to around 3k less than the half ton AT4X. I hope everyone is getting big discounts on those, there is plenty of AT4X 1500 inventory around.

So a little update on mine. They still have my truck after almost 60 days. GMC was stating that the motor was on backorder. (that's a little scary) I was contacted buy GMC and then the dealership last week stating that a motor finally came in and I would hopefully have the truck back by March 9th. The dealership stated there were others in front of me waiting to get new engines. This has been a huge pain in the backside. I am not sure how the warranty works after this. Not sure I am going to keep the truck as I am very concerned about its reliability and I am super disappointed in GMC. I would certainly suggest purchasing an extended warranty.

Tough situation, and I'm sorry for you. I would hope the new motor comes with a new 5/60 warranty, but of course I won't be surprised if they just use the odometer mileage from the time of sale. It is crazy to think about how many hours we lose on these types of situations - phone calls, emails, back and forth to the dealer, etc. Many of us need our trucks for business activities, and are handcuffed when they are gone.

It absolutely sucks to think you cannot trust a 3-5 year old vehicle's powertrain out of warranty. Like I said, I would otherwise keep mine, but I personally know of too many failures to overlook the problem.

That is scary to hear considering I am on the beginning of end of this. Mine is Certified Pre Owned and I bought extended warranty so I should be okay there. But as it was stated we don't really get the time back when we are dealing with this. We are the ones paying for it. Unfortunately, as a result of this happening I am finding how unreliable these newer and far more expensive trucks can be. Many years I have sung the song for GM, probably will continue to do so, but it sounds like they may be losing the reliability credibility. Please keep the thread updated on your situation and I will do the same.
Your time is appreciated!

Me too, and even though all brands have their problems, these 24 GMs have me contemplating changing to the "F" brand... "the horror, THE HORROR!!"

Oh no... I had a King Ranch 5.4L Triton - for 10 years
I think it spent more time being repaired or towed than actually being driven! It went out with a puff of white smoke (literally... broken head gaskets)
